PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Marcus Aurellius (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Estefan Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Aurellius kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Ave Maria. Sanchez is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: The Game - 100 ft. Drake. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 12 - 2, fighting out of St Petersburg, Marcus Aurellius!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 23 - 2, fighting out of Tokyo, Estefan Sanchez!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Yuuki Gou and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aurellius digs a good body shot into Sanchez's ribs.

Sanchez gets a clinch.
Aurellius has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Aurellius can't get the takedown.
Aurellius has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Sanchez after a bit of a struggle.

Aurellius has hold of one of Sanchez's legs. Sanchez is fighting the takedown attempt but Aurellius gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Aurellius with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Sanchez using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Aurellius has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
A right hook to the body lands for Sanchez.
Aurellius has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Sanchez is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Marcus Aurellius. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Aurellius has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Sanchez is trying to keep an underhook but Aurellius manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Sanchez kicks Aurellius off and gets back to his feet.

Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
Sanchez is looking to control Aurellius's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Sanchez avoid being mounted?
Sanchez manages to get to full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sanchez wants to stand and escape but Aurellius is having none of it.

Sanchez pushes Aurellius off and gets back to his feet.

Aurellius clinches up with Sanchez and pushes him back against the cage.

Sanchez escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Sanchez lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Estefan Sanchez is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Aurellius's corner calls for a 1-2. Aurellius obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Aurellius with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Aurellius has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Sanchez regains guard immediately.

Sanchez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Aurellius's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Aurellius is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Sanchez stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Aurellius is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Sanchez pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Sanchez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sanchez throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Sanchez throws a series of punches but Aurellius avoids them all with ease.
Sanchez tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Aurellius counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Sanchez uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Aurellius.

Aurellius tries to close the distance and clinch up but Sanchez swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Aurellius passes into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Aurellius in particular looking to stall.
Marcus Aurellius overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Sanchez is trying to maintain the position but Aurellius is very close to passing his half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Aurellius lands a nice short elbow.
Sanchez is not content to let Aurellius control the position.
Aurellius throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Aurellius is nestled in close to Sanchez, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Aurellius connects with a nice short shot to Sanchez's temple.

Aurellius uses his free foot to push down on Sanchez's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Sanchez.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Aurellius cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:21 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Marcus Aurellius!
In his post fight interview, Marcus Aurellius started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
