Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mateusz Biernat! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Isaiah Monteiro! The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Joseph Jones and Bruno Lombardi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Biernat misses with a jab, cross combination.
Monteiro is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. Biernat rushes Monteiro and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch. Biernat misses with a punch on the inside.
The fighters are pressed against the ropes, as the pace of the fight slows. Biernat definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Biernat's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Sloppy strikes from Biernat. Those never looked like landing. Biernat gets a clinch. Biernat escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Biernat moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Mateusz Biernat seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Biernat misses with a head kick.
Biernat thows a leg kick but Monteiro checks it and Monteiro counters with a nice double leg into half guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Monteiro is controlling the pace.
That's one minute gone in the round. Monteiro's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Monteiro is looking to advance position but Biernat won't allow it. Biernat looks like he's trying to stand up.
Biernat is defending against the submission attempts here by Monteiro.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Monteiro is looking to take a break and control but Biernat is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Biernat pushes Monteiro off, looking to escape but Monteiro dives into side control. He's locked up a kimura now - that was fast! He's cranking on it and Biernat is forced to tap! The fight is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Isaiah Monteiro! In his post fight interview, Isaiah Monteiro started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
