Quick Fight Championship PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Raleigh Owens and Sammy Gravanoe. Gravanoe has chosen Livin on a Prayer as his entrance music. Sammy Gravanoe will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 wins, 0 losses and 0 draws, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sammy Gravanoe!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Paulo Santos and Felipe Paraventi.



The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gravanoe sizes up Owens with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

It looks like Raleigh Owens has been cut.
Gravanoe looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Gravanoe closes the distance and clinches.
Gravanoe missing with knees to the body.

Owens gets control of Gravanoe's arms and successfully pulls guard. Owens will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Gravanoe throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Gravanoe chips away with some ground and pound.

Gravanoe got a little sloppy there for a moment and Owens has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gravanoe has managed to get both his arms back between Owens's legs - danger averted.

Gravanoe stands up and waves to Owens to follow him.
Sammy Gravanoe seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Gravanoe has Owens pulled in close to control his posture.
Gravanoe wants to improve his position but instead Owens has moved into half guard.

Owens is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Gravanoe feints and as Owens raises his hands in defense, Gravanoe changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Gravanoe makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Owens is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Gravanoe defends well.
Gravanoe cracks Owens with a solid left hand.

Gravanoe stands up and waves to Owens to follow him.

Gravanoe gets a clinch.
Gravanoe landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Gravanoe is pushing Owens up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Owens drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Gravanoe is trying to trip Owens. He has hold of a leg but Owens is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Gravanoe persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Gravanoe trying to control the position from guard on top but Owens is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Gravanoe stands and steps away. Owens gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Owens gets tackled into the cage by Gravanoe. Gravanoe maintains the clinch.

Owens wants the takedown. Gravanoe is fighting it off but Owens persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Gravanoe's guard against the cage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Gravanoe pulls Owens in close to his closed guard and prevents Owens from doing any damage or advancing position.
Gravanoe has a closed guard, preventing Owens from standing up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sammy Gravanoe dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Raleigh Owens's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Gravanoe fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Owens has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Gravanoe uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Gravanoe shoots in and gets a takedown into Owens's guard.

Owens has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Gravanoe off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Sammy Gravanoe is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Owens has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.

Gravanoe fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Owens, pushing him back against the cage.

Gravanoe breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Owens gets tackled into the cage by Gravanoe. Gravanoe maintains the clinch.
Gravanoe has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Gravanoe is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Owens is keeping busy.

Gravanoe breaks the clinch.
Gravanoe will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Gravanoe closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Owens to the mat! Owens manages to get full guard.
Sammy Gravanoe has got the better of the ground game so far.

Gravanoe has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Owens is proving hard to escape from.
Gravanoe postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gravanoe makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Owens is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Gravanoe defends well.

Gravanoe stands up and waves to Owens to follow him.

Gravanoe shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Owens is trying to defend but Gravanoe finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Gravanoe is breathing heavily.
Owens wants to control but Gravanoe is keeping busy.

Gravanoe postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Owens to stand up.

Gravanoe drives through with a takedown into Owens's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Gravanoe throws a big elbow that misses.

Owens looking for a guillotine here but Gravanoe defends easily.

Gravanoe is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Gravanoe cracks Owens with a solid left hand.

Owens escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Gravanoe gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Gravanoe missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Owens working for submissions but it's allowed Gravanoe to get to half guard.

Owens kicks Gravanoe off and gets back to his feet.

Gravanoe throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Owens tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Gravanoe is in Owens's guard.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Owens has momentary wrist control but Gravanoe slips an elbow through the middle.

Gravanoe postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Owens working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gravanoe doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Owens is tightening it up a little... Gravanoe has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Gravanoe reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Gravanoe taps out! Nice BJJ there by Owens!
