Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Marcel Merrill (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michel Page (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Michel Page!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, James Atkins and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Page enables Merrill to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Page manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Page looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Page had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Merrill defends it easily.
Merrill wants to stand but Page is controlling his posture from full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Page looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Merrill has picked Page up and slammed him! Page can't keep hold of the triangle and Merrill manages to pass to side control!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Merrill remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Page is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Merrill is breathing heavily.

Page has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

That was a close round but I would say that Marcel Merrill will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Page will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Merrill shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Page as he avoids it easily.
Page fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Page keeps Merrill at a distance using the push kick.

Page manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Merrill on his heels. He'll look to pass Merrill's guard now, I'm sure.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Merrill has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Page.

Michel Page showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Merrill jumps guard but Page stands there with Merrill around his waist. Merrill gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Merrill changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Page tries to avoid it but Merrill manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Page to the ground. Page escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
