Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matthew Morrison (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcus Maynard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Marcus Maynard !
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Jorge Garcia and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maynard tries to clinch there but Morrison circles away.
Marcus Maynard seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Maynard fails to land the takedown.
Morrison seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Morrison misses with a hook
and Maynard counters with a three punch combo that has Morrison backing up. Morrison nods at Maynard to acknowledge the strikes.

and Maynard counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Morrison tightens his grip and picks Maynard up, before dumping him to the ground. Maynard manages to land in guard.
Morrison wants to stand but Maynard is controlling his posture from full guard.

Morrison will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Maynard really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Morrison. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Morrison wants to sweep but no luck.
Maynard postures up in Morrison's guard and throws a big left but Morrison blocks it.

Maynard drops back, looking for a kneebar! Morrison looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Morrison looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Morrison!


Morrison decides to stand back up. Morrison steps back and let's Maynard get back to his feet.
Maynard shoots and misses

and Morrison counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Maynard closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Morrison to the mat! Morrison manages to get full guard.
Maynard is fighting to break Morrison's control of his arms but Morrison is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Morrison wants to take the fight to the mat but Maynard manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Morrison has Maynard pushed against the cage.
Morrison misses with a punch to the body.
Morrison lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Maynard backwards.

Morrison goes for a takedown in the clinch but Maynard prevents it.

Morrison has hold of one of Maynard 's legs. Maynard is fighting the takedown attempt but Morrison gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Morrison decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Maynard , up you get!

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Maynard is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Morrison can't fight it off and eventually Maynard manages to take the fight to the floor. Morrison looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Maynard must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Morrison is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Well, if Morrison is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Morrison's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Morrison.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Morrison connects with a nice short shot to Maynard 's temple.

Maynard dives in for a single leg takedown but Morrison sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Maynard takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Maynard takes a swing at Morrison's ribcage but misses.
Maynard avoids a kick to the body.
Maynard misses with a takedown attempt - Morrison sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Matthew Morrison has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marcus Maynard .

Morrison moves into the clinch.

Maynard jumps guard but Morrison stands there with Maynard around his waist. Maynard gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Maynard throws a strike but Morrison rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Morrison, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
