PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Hung Barron (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daylon Espinosa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Daylon Espinosa will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hung Barron!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Daylon Espinosa!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Russell Pearce and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Espinosa stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Espinosa wants it to stay on the feet.
Espinosa tries to clinch but Barron moves out of range.
Espinosa lands a nice leg kick that just misses Barron's sensitive parts.

Barron shoots in and bounces Espinosa off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Espinosa is looking to stand back up but Barron counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Espinosa.

Barron content to control rather than advance.
Espinosa is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Espinosa avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Barron.

Barron not doing much here.
Espinosa holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Espinosa is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Espinosa keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Barron in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Espinosa is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Espinosa looking to hit a scissor sweep but Barron is one step ahead there.
Espinosa is trying to keep Barron in close.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Espinosa pulls out of a head kick attempt.
No joy there for Espinosa, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Barron scores with a hook to the body. Espinosa takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Barron misses with a takedown

and Espinosa counters by moving into the clinch.

Barron pulls guard.
Barron bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Espinosa's guard.

Barron is fighting to break Espinosa's control of his arms but Espinosa is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Barron postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Barron is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Barron lands a couple of digs.
Barron might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Espinosa is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Barron defends well.
Barron is stalling in the full guard.

Espinosa working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Barron has passed into half guard!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Espinosa wants to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hung Barron dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Barron leaves Espinosa with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Barron is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Espinosa can do to turn this around?
Barron misses the shot to the body.
Barron avoids the head kick by Espinosa.
It looked like Barron was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Espinosa.
Espinosa darts in looking for a takedown but Barron gets double underhooks and turns Espinosa into the cage.

Espinosa is pressed up against the cage. Barron has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Espinosa down to the mat. Espinosa avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Hung Barron has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Daylon Espinosa.
Barron sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

Espinosa closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Espinosa tries for a takedown but Barron manages to get underhooks.
Barron doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Barron is trying to force a seperation but Espinosa has the dominant position.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Barron tries to land knees in the clinch but Espinosa avoids the damage to the body.
Barron tries to score a body lock takedown but Espinosa shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Espinosa ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Espinosa no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Barron thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Espinosa keeping moving, preventing Barron from controlling successfully.
Barron missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Espinosa is trying to control the position but Barron postures up.
Barron trying to stand up but can't free himself from Espinosa's guard.

Barron not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Espinosa throws a sloppy head kick and Barron moves out of range easily.
Barron misses with a body shot.
Barron is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Espinosa with the counter takedown but Barron avoids it easily.
Daylon Espinosa is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Espinosa fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Espinosa is breathing heavily.
Barron with a jab.

Espinosa keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Espinosa clinches with his opponent.
Espinosa with a knee to the head.
Barron has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Espinosa avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Barron has Espinosa pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Espinosa manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Espinosa breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Barron tries to clinch up but Espinosa circles away and keeps his distance.
Espinosa changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Barron tries to avoid it but Espinosa manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Barron to the ground. Barron escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Espinosa, right into the meat.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Daylon Espinosa showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


A head kick from Espinosa lands but Barron takes it in his stride.
Espinosa shoots in but no luck this time.
Espinosa works Barron's body with a nice hook.
Espinosa fails in his attempt to clinch.
Espinosa misses with a double jab.
Barron swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Espinosa shoots for a double leg takedown but Barron sprawls well. He's pushed Espinosa's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Espinosa gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Barron can't get the takedown.
Espinosa lands a nice knee to the body.
Espinosa looking to throw knees to the head but Barron is blocking nicely.

Barron breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Barron moves in looking to clinch but Espinosa pushes him off.

Barron shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Espinosa takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Barron avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Barron stands up and waves to Espinosa to follow him.
Barron tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Espinosa paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Espinosa is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Barron with a body shot.
Barron avoids the head kick by Espinosa.

Barron closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Barron prevents Espinosa from getting the reversal.
Barron with shots to the head and body - Espinosa looks very uncomfortable down there.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Espinosa wants to hold on but Barron pushes him away.

Espinosa reaches up to try and control the position but Barron seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Espinosa rolls and tries to escape and now Barron has his back!
Barron doesn't have the hooks in and Espinosa manages to turn into his guard.

Barron is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Barron is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Espinosa is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

I would just about give that final round to Daylon Espinosa.
I think Espinosa has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
