The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Battle moves into the clinch.
Viriatus can't get the takedown.

Battle pulls guard successfully.
Viriatus wants to stand but Battle has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Battle has his hands on Viriatus 's head, controlling the position.
Viriatus pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Battle is keeping the position for now.
Viriatus tries to stand but Battle is controlling from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Viriatus dives in for a single leg takedown but Battle sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Viriatus pushes Battle up against the cage in a clinch.

Battle breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

and Battle counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Battle.
Battle on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Viriatus is trying to push Battle away but Battle has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Battle keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Viriatus 's efforts to push away.

Battle has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Viriatus is trying to keep an underhook but Battle manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Battle wants to control but Viriatus is keeping him busy.
Battle is thwarting Viriatus 's attempts to control the position.

Battle is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Viriatus is just riding it out for now. Battle eventually gives up the hold.

Battle decides to stand up.

Battle throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Viriatus tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Battle is in Viriatus 's guard.

Viriatus uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Battle shoots in but no luck this time.
Viriatus wants to counter with a clinch but Battle pushes him away.

Viriatus moves into range and clinches up with Battle.
Battle is working Viriatus over against the cage.
Viriatus looks winded!
Battle tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Viriatus smiles and moves away.

Viriatus moves into the clinch.

Viriatus stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Battle has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Viriatus clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Battle is trying to stick to Viriatus 's back but Viriatus is turning into Battle. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Battle's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Viriatus .

Battle working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Viriatus doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Viriatus manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Battle wants to improve his position but instead Viriatus has moved into half guard.
Battle avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Viriatus .

A close round but Viriato Viriatus will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Viriatus shoots in looking for a takedown. Battle tries to sprawl out of it but Viriatus keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Battle manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Battle is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Battle pulls Viriatus in close to prevent any damage.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Viriatus wants to control from the top but Battle keeps moving.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Viriatus fails with the takedown.
Viriatus shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Battle defends it nicely.

The crowd cheers as Viriatus lands an impressive looking overhand right. Battle doesn't seem phased though.

Viriatus is breathing heavily.
Battle wants to take the fight to the mat but Viriatus manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Battle pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Battle stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Battle wants it to stay on the feet.

Battle closes the distance and clinches.
Viriatus jumps guard but Battle turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Battle escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Bruce Battle is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Viriatus looks for a takedown but Battle sprawls well.
Battle throws a big counter combination but Viriatus scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Viriatus misses with a wild body shot.

Battle drives through and clinches with Viriatus against the cage.

Battle decides to pull guard.
Battle has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

More hug and hope from Battle.

A head kick misses from Battle.
Viriatus is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Viriatus is defended easily by Battle.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Battle jumps guard and drags Viriatus to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Viriatus looking to sit in guard and control but Battle gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Viriatus is trying to control the position but Battle postures up.
Battle wanted to stand there but Viriatus had control of the position.

Battle drops back looking for a leg! Viriatus is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Viriatus manages to kick Battle off! Battle jumps back into Viriatus 's guard.

Battle lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Battle is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Battle drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Battle jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Battle trying to control the position from guard on top but Viriatus is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Viriatus is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Battle is aware though and is defending well.
Battle knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Viriatus on the ground.
Viriatus takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Battle controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Battle pushes Viriatus up against the cage in a clinch.

Battle tries to pull guard but Viriatus won't allow it.

Battle pulls Viriatus into guard.
Battle looking to hit a scissor sweep but Viriatus is one step ahead there.
Viriatus would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Battle keeping moving, preventing Viriatus from controlling successfully.
Viriatus might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Battle haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Battle working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Viriatus .

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Viriatus trying to control but Battle is working from the bottom.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Battle darts in and clinches Viriatus up against the cage.

Viriatus can't break the clinch.
Battle tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Viriatus just stands there and leans against the cage.
Viriatus is trying to break free.

Well Battle has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
