PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Whitney Workman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Card (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Card comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Survivor - Eye Of The Tiger kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Jason Card!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, James Ackerman and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Card shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Workman but Workman pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Workman thinks about countering with a head kick.

Workman gets the takedown into side control.
Workman wants to stand but Card is controlling his arm.
Card defending against the ground and pound.
Card manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Workman is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Workman not landing any meaningful shots this time.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Workman tries to stand and escape but Card is controlling the position.
Workman looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Card with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Workman is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Card wants to improve his position but Workman is controlling well.

Workman is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Card sees it coming and defends easily.

Workman lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Workman throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Workman thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Card's head.
Card keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Workman is nestled in close to Card, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Card regains full guard. Nicely done.
Card bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Workman's guard.

Workman is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Card is aware though and is defending well.
Card is looking to work some ground and pound but Workman has wrist control.
Card wants to control from the top but Workman keeps moving.
Workman might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Card throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Card is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Card thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Workman is trying to control the position but Card postures up.

Card drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Card jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Card throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Workman sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Workman lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Card tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Workman swivels and escapes.

and Workman counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Card!
Workman tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Workman works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Workman tries to stand but Card is controlling his head.

You can see the frustration on Card's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Card takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Card not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Card stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Workman swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Card pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Workman is keeping the position for now.
Card wants to control from the top but Workman keeps moving.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Card throws a right and a left that both miss.
Card shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Workman as he avoids it easily.
Whitney Workman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jason Card.

Workman closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Card's guard.

Card is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Workman is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Card is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Workman has escaped the position, nice work there.
The strikes coming from Card are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Workman is trying to control but can't.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Workman throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Card wants to free his trapped foot but Workman is holding on for dear life with his legs.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Card swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Workman.
Card shoots in for a takedown but Workman shows good takedown defense.

Workman gets the takedown into side control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Workman tries to get to his feet but Card is in the middle of advancing position himself and ends up with Workman in his guard.
Card is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


And that's the end of the fight!
Jason Card comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Workman has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
