PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tar San (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sam Assad (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tar San!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sam Assad!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Cecil Peabody and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Assad lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Assad doesn't manage to clinch there - San circles away.

San shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Assad's guard.
San's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Assad wants to get back to his feet but San is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Assad looking to hit a scissor sweep but San is one step ahead there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Assad is on top in guard.


That's one minute gone in the round.
San striking off his back but it's not causing Assad any problems.

Assad thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
San is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Assad working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Assad stops San from standing up.

San looking for a guillotine here but Assad defends easily.
Assad throws a big elbow that misses.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Assad wanted to stand there but San had control of the position.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
San might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

San looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

San closes the distance and clinches.
San keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Assad's efforts to push away.
The referee calls for San to work.
San blocking some punches.

San manages to break the clinch.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Assad enables San to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Assad manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Assad wants to stand and escape but San is having none of it.
Assad keeping moving, preventing San from controlling successfully.
Assad bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in San's guard.

San is looking to stand up but Assad isn't so interested in that idea.
San has Assad pulled in close to control his posture.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

San is looking for a triangle here but Assad uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
San knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Assad on the ground.
Assad has knee on belly and moves into mount.
San is trying to escape the mount.
Assad looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
San wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Assad.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Assad thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Assad wants to control the pace but San is squirming around nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sam Assad dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



San rushes Assad and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch.

San tightens his grip and picks Assad up, before dumping him to the ground. Assad manages to land in guard.
San not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Assad manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. San manages to get himself to full guard.

Assad has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Assad trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Assad trying to control the position from guard on top but San is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

San pulls Assad in close to his closed guard and prevents Assad from doing any damage or advancing position.
San trying to control the position.
Assad wants to control from the top but San keeps moving.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Assad!
Assad connects with a looping right hand.

San rushes Assad and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch.

San's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Tar San is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Assad lands a two punch combo.
San avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

San moves into the clinch successfully.
San misses with a short punch on the inside.
Assad drops down looking for an ankle pick but San pulls his leg out and moves away.
No luck for Assad with that takedown attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
San swats away the attempt to clinch by Assad.
Assad throws a combination. San tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
San stuffs the takedown.
Assad just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromSan.
Tar San has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sam Assad.
Assad shoots in for a takedown but San shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Danga de danga de dang - Assad scores with a four punch combination!

Assad gets caught napping as San dives in and scores a takedown. Assad manages to retain guard.
San trying to control the position from guard on top but Assad is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Assad is trying to control the position but San postures up.
San working some strikes from top position.
Sam Assad has got the better of the ground game so far.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Assad controls San momentarily but San frees himself.
San trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Assad is trying to keep San in close.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Assad stalks San and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into San's face. San staggers backwards, shaken.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Assad lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.


San is rocked!
Assad feints a kick and comes over the top with a right hand, followed by a left hook - both land, sending San crashing to the mat! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Sam Assad!
