PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eddie Gelfen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan The Beast (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The Beast has chosen I'm Broken as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Eddie Gelfen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dan The Beast!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Ben Zyskovitsi and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The Beast moves in looking to clinch but Gelfen pushes him off.
Gelfen misses with a wild body shot.

The Beast feints and as Gelfen raises his hands in defense, The Beast changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The Beast loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
The Beast prevents Gelfen from getting back to his feet.
The Beast looking to pass the guard.
The Beast works a leg free and moves into half guard.

The Beast looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Gelfen is trying to stand up here but The Beast is controlling him well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The Beast wants to free his trapped foot but Gelfen is holding on for dear life with his legs.

The Beast is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The Beast drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and The Beast jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The Beast is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

The Beast wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Gelfen, who protects the arm well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The Beast tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The Beast tries to move into full mount but can't pass Gelfen's legs.
The Beast misses with the ground and pound.
The Beast wants to control but Gelfen is keeping him busy.

The Beast is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Gelfen is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

The Beast thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Gelfen is trying to improve his position.
The Beast tries to advance to mount but Gelfen denies him.

The Beast is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Gelfen has escaped the position, nice work there.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The Beast in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Gelfen is looking to regain half guard here but The Beast keeps moving and retains side control.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
The Beast looks up at the clock and then as Gelfen takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, The Beast smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

The Beast is trying to get an arm triangle but Gelfen is defending well.

The Beast working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The Beast is looking to take a break and control but Gelfen is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The Beast passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Gelfen!

Gelfen rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but The Beast moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
The Beast shoots for a double leg takedown but Gelfen sprawls well. He's pushed The Beast's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Eddie Gelfen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dan The Beast.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from The Beast is defended easily by Gelfen.
The Beast shoots in looking for a takedown but Gelfen manages to keep the fight standing, pushing The Beast's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Gelfen throws a good cross that connects.

Gelfen wants to slow The Beast down by chopping away at his legs.

The Beast uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Gelfen.
The Beast wants to clinch.
The Beast tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Gelfen manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Gelfen swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.

Gelfen lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt The Beast or not.
The Beast tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Gelfen gets through The Beast's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

Gelfen ducks down and throws a hook to the body but The Beast moves away.
Gelfen throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
The Beast shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Gelfen sprawls well. Gelfen wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. The Beast gets slowly back to his feet.

Gelfen throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Gelfen keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Gelfen looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
The Beast avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
The Beast fails in his attempt to clinch.
Gelfen throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Gelfen dips to his left and cracks The Beast with an uppercut!

The Beast moves out of range of the strikes.

Gelfen misses with a hook. The Beast ducked under it nicely.

The Beast's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Gelfen connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! The Beast scrambles back to his feet.

The fight stays on the outside here - The Beast looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The Beast tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Gelfen smiles and moves away.
Gelfen misses with a low kick.
The Beast defending well as Gelfen loads up on a big left hand.
Gelfen scores with the left hand. The Beast knows he should have avoided that one.
Gelfen misses with a hook. The Beast ducked under it nicely.

and Gelfen cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

The Beast's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
The Beast takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Gelfen pushes The Beast back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Gelfen gets through The Beast's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Gelfen works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.

Gelfen fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. The Beast looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Gelfen throws an uppercut from half a mile away. The Beast sees it coming and avoids it easily.
The Beast defending well as Gelfen loads up on a big left hand.
Gelfen lands a jab to The Beast's midsection.
Gelfen punishes The Beast's body with a nice straight punch.
Gelfen uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
The Beast darts in looking for a takedown but Gelfen gets double underhooks and turns The Beast into the cage.
The Beast doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The Beast drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Gelfen lands a nice looking body shot.
Gelfen drops a shoulder and throws an uppercut that cracks The Beast right on the button. The Beast goes down! Gelfen follows him to the mat and finishes the job with more strikes! Gelfen gets the win via TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Eddie Gelfen!
A less than humble Eddie Gelfen misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
