PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ken Hall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tom Watt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ken Hall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tom Watt!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Alec Ball and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hall scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Hall throwing shots but Watt is blocking nicely.

Hall is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Watt has managed to free his arm - good work.
Watt moves into full guard.
Hall preventing the sweep.
Watt is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Watt keeping moving, preventing Hall from controlling successfully.

Hall stands up from Watt's guard - Hall perhaps looking for a knockout.
Hall shoots for a double leg takedown but Watt sprawls well. He's pushed Hall's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Hall misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Watt stuffs the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ken Hall. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hall misses with an attempted mid kick.
Crunch! Watt slams his shin into Hall's torso.
Hall is breathing heavily.
Watt connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Hall keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Watt tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hall swivels and escapes.

Watt is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Watt trying to hold on to Hall's head to control him but Hall postures up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Hall counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Hall.
Hall working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Watt had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Hall is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Watt Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Hall's back instead.

Watt is persistently looking for the submission but Hall is defending it well.
Hall is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Watt is looking to control Hall but Hall is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Hall can't escape the position.

Can Hall hold on?! Watt is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.
Hall has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Watt.

Watt is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Hall knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Hall for a finish.

Watt has his opponent's back but Hall is looking to stand. He manages to get to his feet and shakes off Watt.
Hall scores with a nice strike.
Hall will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Watt misses with a takedown attempt - Hall sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Watt gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Watt clinches up against the cage.

Hall breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Hall is looking to clinch.
Watt avoids the head kick by Hall.
Hall gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Watt counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Hall tries to roll over but Watt keeps him under control.
Watt wants to stand up but Hall has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Hall is trying to stand back up but Watt is controlling him
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Hall drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
An elbow from Hall crashes against the mat.

You can see the frustration on Watt's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Hall wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Watt, who protects the arm well.
Watt is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Watt is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Hall wants to get back to his feet.
Watt is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Hall's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Hall's back!
Hall covers up after that shot from Watt.

Watt patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?

Watt is persistently looking for the submission but Hall is defending it well.
Watt somehow managing to miss with a strike from the back.
Watt doesn't have the hooks in and Hall manages to turn into his guard.
Hall trying to control but Watt is working from the bottom.
Watt is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Hall would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Watt is bucking up trying to escape but Hall cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Hall throwing strikes but Watt recovers to half guard. A much better position.
Watt looks like he's trying to stand up.
Ken Hall overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Hall is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Watt has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hall is working away from the top position though.

Hall looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Watt moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Hall loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Watt escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hall gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Hall thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Hall wants to control from the top but Watt keeps moving.
Watt wants to sweep but no luck.
Watt is looking to stand up but Hall isn't so interested in that idea.

Hall gets to his feet. Watt looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hall.
Watt has his takedown stuffed

and Hall moves into the clinch.
Hall wants to break the clinch but can't.
Hall tries to break the clinch but Watt is controlling the position.
Hall wants to break free but Watt has control.

Watt pulls guard effortlessly.
Watt manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Hall wants to hold on but Watt pushes him away.
Watt looking to control but Hall is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Watt goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Hall is on top in guard.

Hall gets to his feet. Watt looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Watt tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Hall wants to clinch
and Watt connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Ken Hall has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Watt takes a head kick and shrugs it off.

Hall decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Watt regains full guard. Nicely done.
Hall throwing strikes from guard but Watt blocks nicely.
Tom Watt is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Watt pulls Hall in to control the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ken Hall showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Watt has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
