PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Luke Pugh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob Knob (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Knob has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Bob Knob will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Luke Pugh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Bob Knob!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Viktor Lagutenko and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Knob throws a series of punches but Pugh avoids them all with ease.
Pugh moves in looking to clinch but Knob pushes him off.
Knob misses with a series of wild punches.

Pugh gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Knob's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Knob avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Pugh is looking to clinch.

Knob gets a double leg takedown into Pugh's guard.

Pugh is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Pugh wants to stand up but Knob is controlling him.
Pugh working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Knob.
Pugh might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Knob trying to control the position from guard on top but Pugh is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Pugh is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Knob is controlling him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pugh is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Knob presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Pugh jumps guard but Knob turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Pugh is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Knob to keep the fight standing.
Pugh tries to pull guard but Knob forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Luke Pugh. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Knob breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Knob fails to land with a series of punches.
Knob swats away the attempt to clinch by Pugh.

Knob has closed the distance and engaged Pugh in a clinch.
Pugh jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Knob walks away with a smile on his face. Pugh gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

and Pugh counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Knob is trying to stand up here but Pugh is controlling him well.
Knob looks winded!

Pugh wants to work for an arm triangle but Knob is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Knob is looking to escape.
Knob is positioning himself well to prevent Pugh advancing to mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Pugh is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Knob doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Pugh.

Pugh gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Knob misses with a double jab

and Pugh counters by moving into the clinch.
Pugh can't break the clinch.
Pugh is trying to pull guard but Knob has him pressed against the cage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Pugh successfully pulls guard.
Pugh lands some strikes from the bottom.
Pugh looking to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Luke Pugh will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Pugh tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Pugh is trying to pull guard but Knob has him pressed against the cage.

Knob misses with a few strikes there.

Pugh fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Knob sprawls well initially but Pugh persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
It looks like Pugh is going to stand back up.

Knob is breathing heavily.

Knob is trying to maintain the position but Pugh is very close to passing his half guard.

Pugh decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Some wild striking there from Knob.
Pugh tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Knob manages to circle out of the way.
Knob misses with the combination.

Pugh drives through with a takedown into guard.

Pugh decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Pugh moves out of range as Knob throws a body kick.

Pugh kicks Knob off and gets to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Pugh closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Pugh is controlling the pace.
Knob pushes Pugh off looking to stand but Pugh dives back in and keeps control.
Luke Pugh overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Pugh wants to work for an arm triangle but Knob is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Pugh looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Pugh is looking for a kimura but Knob is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Pugh to get the leverage.
Knob regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Pugh.

Pugh gets to his feet. Knob looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Luke Pugh dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Knob fails to land with a series of punches.
Pugh really is a fat lump.

Pugh shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Pugh is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Knob takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Knob counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Pugh is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Knob can do to turn this around?

Knob looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

and Knob counters with a stiff right hand.

Pugh takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Knob misses with a series of wild punches.

Knob gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Pugh is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Pugh makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Pugh tries to stand but Knob is controlling from the bottom.

Knob has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Pugh off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Pugh moves in looking to clinch but Knob pushes him off.
Bob Knob has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Knob keeps the fight on the outside.

Pugh clinches up against the cage.
Pugh is trying to drag Knob to the mat but Knob just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Knob lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Pugh wants to get back to striking at distance but Knob won't allow it.

Knob breaks from the clinch.

Knob shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Knob showed some decent athleticism there.

Pugh pushes Knob off and gets back to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bob Knob comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Pugh has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
