The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vermeulen jabs Tapaus right on the nose. Tapaus blinks but takes it well.
Tapaus is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Vermeulen.
Tapaus misses with a lunging right hand
and Vermeulen counters with a nice uppercut.
A big right from Tapaus misses.
An attempted straight right counter from Vermeulen misses the target.
Tapaus misses with a wild body shot.
A punch combination from Vermeulen misses.
Tapaus wants to counter the offense by Vermeulen and move into the clinch position.
Vermeulen tries to bum rush Tapaus with a series of wild strikes but Tapaus uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Tapaus tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Vermeulen defends well and Tapaus ends up having to push Vermeulen into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

It looked like Vermeulen wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Tapaus moves forwards but Vermeulen connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Vermeulen moves out of range as Tapaus strikes.
It looked like Vermeulen was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Tapaus.
Vermeulen blocks a jab.

The fighters circle momentarily. Tapaus darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Tapaus avoids a punch combination nicely.

Tapaus is rocked!
Tapaus gets clipped by a big right hand and goes down spinning to the canvas! Vermeulen gets the back mount and begins to drop bombs on his rocked foe! Tapaus is too out of it to defend against the strikes and the referee jumps in to save him from the beatdown!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Hendrik Vermeulen!
