PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jon Barnes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Duke Dukerson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Barnes comes to the cage accompanied by ATL. Duke Dukerson told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jon Barnes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Duke Dukerson!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Daniel Franklin and Alan Glass.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barnes punishes Dukerson's body with a nice straight punch.
Horrible takedown attempt by Dukerson or perhaps it was just good defense by Barnes, which made it look bad.
Barnes moves away from the strike by Dukerson.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Barnes.
Dukerson lands the left hand.
Dukerson fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Barnes manages to avoid it.
Dukerson connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

Barnes moves into range and clinches up with Dukerson.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Dukerson manages to break the clinch.
Dukerson misses with a jab to the body
and Barnes counters with a good low kick that Dukerson was not able to check.
Dukerson takes a swing at Barnes's ribcage but misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Barnes scores with a jab to the jaw.
Dukerson looks to score with a jab to the body but Barnes is just out of range.
Barnes seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Dukerson takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Dukerson throws the left hand but Barnes avoids the punch easily.
Dukerson misses with a body shot.
Barnes tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Dukerson was well out of range. Poor timing from Barnes.
Dukerson takes a kick to the side of the head.

Dukerson is rocked!
Crunch! Barnes slams his shin into Dukerson's torso.
Dukerson is still on wobbly legs! Can Barnes finish him?
Barnes lands a leg kick that knocks Dukerson off balance momentarily.
Dukerson drops his hands momentarily. Barnes doesn't need a second invitation, landing a shot to the temple. Dukerson staggers and falls to the mat and the ref dives in to save him from any more punishment. Dukerson doesn't seem happy with the stoppage but he was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:51 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Jon Barnes!
After the fight, Jon Barnes was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
