PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Joe Risley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ka'Ra LeVass (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Joe Risley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ka'Ra LeVass!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Paul Aken and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
LeVass fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
LeVass has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Risley is landing a low percentage of strikes.
LeVass slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
LeVass misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Risley tries to counter by moving into the clinch but LeVass manages to circle out of the way.
LeVass misses with a straight right.
LeVass swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
LeVass just misses with a punch to the body.
LeVass just misses with a punch to the body.
Risley looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.
LeVass misses with a shot to the body
and Risley counters with a slapping leg kick.
LeVass scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
LeVass tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Risley manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
LeVass throws a combination that misses

and Risley counters by moving into the clinch.
Risley tried to land a shot to the body but connects with LeVass's elbow.
Risley misses with a punch on the inside.

Risley lands a hook to the side of the head.
Risley tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Risley letting LeVass take a breather here.
Risley throws a punch but it's blocked by LeVass.
Risley has LeVass pushed against the cage.
LeVass is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Risley is keeping busy.
Risley stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

LeVass lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
LeVass tries to pass the half guard into mount. Risley knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Risley wants to sweep but LeVass has passed to side control!

Risley gets back to half guard.
Risley regains full guard. Nicely done.

Risley is looking for a triangle but LeVass pushes his legs off easily.

Risley manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. LeVass manages to get himself to full guard.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
LeVass has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Risley has passed into side control.
LeVass prevents Risley from moving into mount.

LeVass is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Risley looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
LeVass is looking for a sweep.

Risley wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by LeVass, who protects the arm well.
LeVass is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Risley off and has taken his back!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

LeVass gets his hooks in and is throwing strikes.
Risley trying to control the hands but LeVass breaks the grip.
LeVass misses with punches from the back.
Risley is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
LeVass really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Risley.
Risley is in bad spot here.
Risley prevents LeVass from getting a body triangle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Ka'Ra LeVass will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


LeVass shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Risley but Risley pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Risley showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from LeVass.

LeVass feints and as Risley raises his hands in defense, LeVass changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
LeVass wants to control from the top but Risley keeps moving.
LeVass lands a couple of decent looking shots.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
LeVass won't allow Risley to get back to his feet.
Risley looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Risley is looking to stand up but LeVass isn't so interested in that idea.

LeVass cracks Risley with a solid left hand.
Risley is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
LeVass pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Risley is keeping the position for now.

Risley is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. LeVass is aware though and is defending well.
Risley has momentary wrist control but LeVass slips an elbow through the middle.
LeVass is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

LeVass must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

LeVass has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Risley is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
LeVass stands up over Risley, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Risley working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from LeVass.

Risley is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
LeVass trying to control but Risley is working from the bottom.
LeVass postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Risley keeping moving, preventing LeVass from controlling successfully.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

LeVass stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Risley swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Risley is looking to sweep but instead, LeVass has passed into half guard.
LeVass wants to control but Risley is keeping him busy.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
LeVass content to control rather than advance.
LeVass is trying to control. Risley wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
LeVass cracks Risley with a good jab.
LeVass scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
LeVass will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Risley is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from LeVass.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Risley uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Risley wants to slow LeVass down by chopping away at his legs.
We've been told by Risley's head coaches at The Coffee Shop that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Ka'Ra LeVass showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Risley's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

A punch lands to the side of Risley 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Risley throws a low kick but it's checked well by LeVass.
LeVass walks into a left hand.

Risley takes one on the chin but seems OK.

LeVass fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Risley manages to avoid it.
Risley wants to clinch up but LeVass keeps it at a distance.

LeVass scores with a jab to the body.
LeVass tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Risley was well out of range. Poor timing from LeVass.
LeVass takes a swing at Risley's ribcage but misses.
Risley on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
LeVass loads up on a big right hand but Risley slips the punch.
LeVass lands a glancing blow to the side of Risley's head.
LeVass shoots and misses
and Risley cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
LeVass moves in looking to clinch but Risley pushes him off.
LeVass scores with a hook to the body. Risley takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
LeVass sizes up Risley with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

LeVass wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Risley misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
LeVass connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
LeVass misses with a low kick.
LeVass ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
LeVass throws a hook but Risley blocks it.
The fighters circle momentarily. LeVass darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Risley pulls out of a head kick attempt.
LeVass lunges at Risley with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Risley's hand.

Nice sprawl there from Risley as LeVass shoots in.
LeVass changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
LeVass fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Risley manages to avoid it.
LeVass jabbing away but nothing is landing.
LeVass ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Risley moves away.

Risley rushes LeVass and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
LeVass is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Joe Risley has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ka'Ra LeVass.
Risley content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Risley lands an uppercut.
LeVass has Risley pushed against the cage.
LeVass tries to stall but Risley uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Ka'Ra LeVass comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got LeVass winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Ka'Ra LeVass decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
