Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Abu Khalid (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jock McEwan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Abu Khalid had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jock McEwan!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Alan Glass and Gwen Towbar.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McEwan scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Khalid manages to escape and get back to his feet!
McEwan scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Khalid doesn't seem bothered though.
Khalid connects with a single shot there.

It looks like Jock McEwan has been cut.
Khalid throws a shot from downtown. McEwan moves away and avoids it.

McEwan feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
McEwan is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

McEwan tries to stand but can't do so whilst Khalid controls his leg.

McEwan looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Khalid with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
McEwan takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Khalid is refusing to be controlled, as McEwan sits in half guard.

McEwan is working for a submission of some sort.
McEwan throwing shots but Khalid is blocking nicely.
Still in half guard, McEwan seems content to control.
Khalid pushes McEwan off looking to stand but McEwan dives back in and keeps control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
McEwan avoids a punch combination nicely.
A chopping leg kick lands by Khalid.
McEwan tries to close the distance and clinch but Khalid swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
A combination from Khalid does no damage.
McEwan will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
McEwan looks gassed!
McEwan stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Khalid.

Nice takedown defense from McEwan. No joy for Khalid on that attempt.
McEwan tries to clinch but Khalid is having none of it.
McEwan moves in looking to clinch but Khalid pushes him off.
Horrible takedown by McEwan or perhaps it was just good defense by Khalid which made him look bad.

Khalid shoots in and bounces McEwan off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

McEwan doesn't manage to clinch there - Khalid circles away.
McEwan fails with a takedown attempt.
Abu Khalid has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jock McEwan.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Khalid closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

McEwan keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Abu Khalid is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
McEwan tries to clinch up.
McEwan stuffs the takedown.

McEwan shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Khalid's guard.
McEwan postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Khalid looking for a guillotine here but McEwan defends easily.
McEwan won't allow Khalid to get back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

McEwan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Khalid. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Khalid wants to get back to his feet but McEwan is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Khalid throws a combination but it was largely blocked by McEwan.

Khalid somehow manages to escape the mount and get back to his feet!

Khalid scores with a sloppy right hand. McEwan should have avoided that one.

McEwan throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
McEwan shoots for a takedown but Khalid saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Khalid will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
McEwan takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Khalid closes the distance and clinches up with McEwan, looking for a takedown. Khalid pushes McEwan against the cage but McEwan circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A close second round but Jock McEwan will probably get the nod - 10:9.

McEwan doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Khalid counters with a two punch combo.

Khalid gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
McEwan trying to control but Khalid is working from the bottom.
Khalid wants to stand up but McEwan is controlling him.

Khalid escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. McEwan gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Khalid has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but McEwan can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

McEwan postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Khalid wriggles free and stands up.
McEwan darts in trying to clinch

and Khalid counters with a nice double leg into guard.
McEwan wants to get back to his feet but Khalid is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

and McEwan counters with a nice double leg into side control. Khalid won't be happy with that.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Khalid wants to control but McEwan postures up.
Khalid is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but McEwan has just dragged him back down to the mat.
McEwan tries to score with some ground and pound. Khalid controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

so Khalid counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Khalid gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Khalid's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Khalid duly obliges.

McEwan shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than McEwan was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Khalid is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
McEwan tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
McEwan won't let Khalid get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

McEwan trying to control but Khalid is having none of it.
Khalid is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
