Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Anthony Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Michael Connolly!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Josh West and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Connolly moves away.
Connolly drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Johnson defends it well.
Johnson connects with a looping right hand.
Johnson uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Connolly.
Johnson punishes Connolly's body with a nice straight punch.
Connolly scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Johnson doesn't seem bothered though.
Connolly looks to land a combination but Johnson avoids it well.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Connolly has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Johnson misses with a double jab
and Connolly connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Johnson swings for the body but Connolly moves out of range.
Johnson tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Connolly was well out of range. Poor timing from Johnson.

Connolly tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Johnson misses with a body shot
and Connolly counters with a one-two to the body.
Johnson swings for the body but Connolly moves out of range.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

A combination from Connolly does no damage.
Johnson is looking to wear down Connolly with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

Johnson catches Connolly with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Johnson takes a swing at Connolly's ribcage but misses.
Johnson misses with a hook.
Johnson stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Connolly is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Johnson.
Johnson listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Johnson lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Connolly at a distance.
Johnson misses with a wild body shot.
Johnson wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Johnson dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Connolly ducks under a wild hook from Johnson.

A looping hook to the body misses from Johnson. Connolly does a little dance to reset his feet.
Connolly drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Johnson defends it well.
Johnson moves out of range of the strikes.
A swing and a miss from Johnson.
Connolly throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Johnson throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Connolly stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Johnson tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Connolly was well out of range. Poor timing from Johnson.
Connolly is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Johnson uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Connolly has time to react.

Johnson connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Johnson fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Connolly looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Johnson thuds his right hand into Connolly's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.


Connolly is rocked!
Johnson tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Connolly was well out of range. Poor timing from Johnson.
Connolly throws a counter combo.
Connolly is still on wobbly legs! Can Johnson finish him?
Connolly walks straight into a right hand from Johnson - that's dropped him! Johnson jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Connolly from any more punishment! Connolly complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:54 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Anthony Johnson!
Michael Connolly was interviewed post fight and said 'I lost because this man is on steroids. '.
