PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gil Wong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Sizemore (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sizemore is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Country Boys Can Survive. Mike Sizemore will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gil Wong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mike Sizemore!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, John Kavanagh and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sizemore shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Wong counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Wong scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Sizemore wants to stand back up but Wong manages to pass into side control.
Sizemore is trying to control Wong's posture but Wong avoids it.
Sizemore tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Sizemore keeps trying to improve his position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sizemore is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Wong to keep the fight standing.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Sizemore closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Sizemore lands in his opponent's guard.

Wong has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Sizemore is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Wong takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Wong lands a left hand that snaps the head of Sizemore backwards.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Wong stuffs the takedown attempt from Sizemore. Sizemore gets slowly back to his feet.

Wong gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Sizemore drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Sizemore jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Wong utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Wong is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Sizemore is controlling him.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Wong is on top in guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Wong missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Wong would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Wong gets to his feet. Sizemore looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Sizemore swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Wong holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Wong effectively controlling the action here.
Sizemore is pushing Wong up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Wong stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Sizemore changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Wong fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Wong fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Sizemore to the ground. Wong is now in Sizemore's guard.
Sizemore wants to hit a switch here but Wong passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Sizemore there!

Wong closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Sizemore did well to prevent Wong getting side control.

Wong decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Sizemore looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Wong is fending him off so far but Sizemore persists. Nope, Wong circles away and we're back to standing.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Wong seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Wong has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Sizemore works over Wong's head and body with a nice combination.
Sizemore leaves Wong with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Wong will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Wong really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Sizemore.

Sizemore is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Well Wong has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
