The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pugh shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Medzatirious flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Medzatirious is on the bottom, trying to hold on to half guard. He's throwing a few small shots here, to keep his opponent honest.

Pugh is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Pugh tries to stand but can't do so whilst Medzatirious controls his leg.

Pugh is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Medzatirious is just riding it out for now. Pugh eventually gives up the hold.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Medzatirious can do anything to dispel that myth.

Pugh decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Pugh is fighting off a takedown attempt but Medzatirious is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Pugh to the mat. Pugh regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Medzatirious working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Pugh might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
