PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ajax Aquila Corvus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Taiga Jim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Taiga Jim told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ajax Aquila Corvus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Taiga Jim!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aquila Corvus attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
A head kick misses from Aquila Corvus.
Aquila Corvus takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Aquila Corvus's corner calls for a 1-2. Aquila Corvus obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
The fighters circling - Aquila Corvus throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Jim is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Aquila Corvus keeps Jim at a distance using the push kick.
Jim connects with a single shot there.

Jim wants the takedown. Aquila Corvus is fighting it off but Jim persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Aquila Corvus's guard against the cage.

Jim darts in looking for a takedown but Aquila Corvus gets double underhooks and turns Jim into the cage.

Jim fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Aquila Corvus avoids it really well and circles away.

Jim connects with a good right hand that stumbles Aquila Corvus. Aquila Corvus circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Jim rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Aquila Corvus moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Jim tries for a takedown but Aquila Corvus sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Taiga Jim will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Jim doesn't manage to clinch there - Aquila Corvus circles away.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Jim has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Jim looks up at the clock and then as Aquila Corvus takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Jim smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Jim is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Jim postures up in Aquila Corvus's guard and throws a big left but Aquila Corvus blocks it.

Jim might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Aquila Corvus haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Jim loads up on a big right hand but Aquila Corvus slips the punch.

and Jim connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Jim throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Aquila Corvus's waist but Aquila Corvus gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jim off to one side.

and Aquila Corvus counters with a low kick, right behind Jim 's knee.
Jim might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Taiga Jim showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Good leg kick by Aquila Corvus there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Jim closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Jim fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Jim looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Aquila Corvus is avoiding damage well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jim misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Aquila Corvus tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Jim is able to avoid easily.

Jim will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Taiga Jim comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Jim winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
