The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penn throws a sloppy head kick and Norte moves out of range easily.

Penn changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Norte looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Penn wants to control for a moment but Norte uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.

Penn is not content to let Norte control the position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Penn had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Norte is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Penn Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Norte's back instead.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Penn has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Norte can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Penn drops down looking for an ankle pick but Norte pulls his leg out and moves away.
Penn rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Norte moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Nice takedown defense from Norte. No joy for Penn on that attempt.

Penn is working to tighten is grip on Norte's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Norte has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Penn is really squeezing tight and eventually Norte passes out! Penn breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
