PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Grzegorz Rundowski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Warley Alvez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alvez has chosen POP as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Grzegorz Rundowski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Warley Alvez!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Felipe Paraventi and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alvez ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Rundowski shoots in but Alvez avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Rundowski avoids the head kick by Alvez.
Alvez misses with a wild combination.
Rundowski was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Alvez has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Alvez stuffs the takedown attempt from Rundowski. Rundowski gets slowly back to his feet.
Alvez throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Alvez connects with a body shot that sends Rundowski's belly button to the back.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rundowski tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Rundowski has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Rundowski is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Alvez has escaped the position, nice work there.
Rundowski will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Rundowski connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Alvez some visible discomfort.

Rundowski tries for a kimura but Alvez is defending well.

Rundowski decides to stand back up. Rundowski steps back and let's Alvez get back to his feet.

and Rundowski connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Rundowski drives through and clinches with Alvez against the cage.

Alvez escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Rundowski fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Alvez, pushing him back against the cage.
Alvez misses with a hook to the ribs.

Rundowski's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Rundowski drives through with a takedown into Alvez's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Rundowski looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Rundowski is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Alvez defends it well.

Rundowski drops an elbow to the side of Alvez's head.

Rundowski uses his free foot to push down on Alvez's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Alvez.
Rundowski cracks Alvez with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Alvez is in a horrible position here. Rundowski smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Rundowski has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Alvez's face.


Alvez is rocked!

Rundowski has hold of Alvez's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Alvez manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Rundowski closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Alvez quickly recovers to half guard.
Rundowski takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Alvez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rundowski. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Rundowski seems to be looking for submissions.

Rundowski has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Rundowski connects with a nice short shot to Alvez's temple.

Rundowski is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Alvez can do to turn this around?

Rundowski is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Grzegorz Rundowski overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Rundowski looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Alvez with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

In his post fight interview, Grzegorz Rundowski started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
In defeat, Warley Alvez stepped up to the mic, saying 'i'll be back bitches'.
