The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cooper connects with a single shot there.

Hertz is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Cooper trying to control but Hertz is having none of it.
Cooper is really struggling to control Hertz but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Cooper feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hertz can do anything to dispel that myth.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Cooper fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Oh Cooper is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Cooper is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Hertz can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Cooper throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
