Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Colin McDermott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dee Burnz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Colin McDermott has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Colin McDermott!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dee Burnz!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Bruno Hogan and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McDermott fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Burnz sprawls well initially but McDermott persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Burnz blocking the ground and pound attempt from McDermott.
McDermott trying to control from half guard but Burnz is working away.
Burnz pushes McDermott off looking to stand but McDermott dives back in and keeps control.

McDermott looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Burnz tries to get to full guard but McDermott has control of the leg.
Burnz won't allow McDermott to pass to mount.
Burnz has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. McDermott is working away from the top position though.
Burnz is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of McDermott's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take McDermott's back!
Burnz really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for McDermott.

Burnz cracks McDermott with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing McDermott from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.

McDermott rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Burnz seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but McDermott does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

McDermott closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Burnz to the mat! Burnz manages to get full guard.
Burnz is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Burnz working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. McDermott doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. McDermott manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

McDermott stands and steps away. Burnz gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Burnz keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Burnz tries to clinch up but McDermott circles away and keeps his distance.

Burnz looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for McDermott!
McDermott tries to reverse the position but Burnz maintains control.

McDermott looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
Burnz doesn't have the hooks in and McDermott manages to turn into his guard.
McDermott stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Burnz swivels though and keeps the full guard.
McDermott trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

McDermott postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Burnz is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of McDermott, into his guard.

McDermott escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Burnz gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Burnz controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Burnz tries to stand but McDermott is controlling from the bottom.

McDermott looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Burnz slips nicely into half guard.

McDermott is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Burnz pulls his head out easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Colin McDermott will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Burnz tries to clinch but McDermott is having none of it.

McDermott scores with a takedown into Burnz's guard.

McDermott drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Burnz manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now McDermott has Burnz in his guard.

McDermott has his foot on Burnz's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Burnz works his way back into a safe position though.
Burnz working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Burnz wants to control from the top but McDermott keeps moving.

McDermott is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

McDermott escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Burnz gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Burnz trying to control the position from guard on top but McDermott is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Burnz connects with a couple of short punches.
McDermott keeping moving, preventing Burnz from controlling successfully.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Nice takedown defense from Burnz. No joy for McDermott on that attempt.
Horrible takedown by Burnz or perhaps it was just good defense by McDermott which made him look bad.

Burnz wants to hold on but McDermott pushes him away.

McDermott moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Burnz has worked his arm free - good work by Burnz!

McDermott swings around for an armbar but Burnz sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into McDermott's guard.
Burnz with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and McDermott counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Colin McDermott has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dee Burnz.

McDermott drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and McDermott jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Dee Burnz is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Burnz connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

McDermott drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

McDermott thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
McDermott trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

McDermott postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Burnz is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of McDermott, into his guard.
McDermott is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

McDermott seems to be looking for submissions.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Burnz pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Burnz tries to clinch but McDermott moves away

Burnz escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. McDermott gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

McDermott drops back, looking for a kneebar! Burnz looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Burnz looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Burnz!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McDermott is looking to regain half guard here but Burnz keeps moving and retains side control.

Burnz decides to stand back up. Burnz steps back and let's McDermott get back to his feet.

McDermott closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Burnz to the mat! Burnz manages to get full guard.

Burnz pushes McDermott off and scrambles back to his feet.
McDermott has his takedown stuffed
and Burnz counters with a series of strikes. McDermott will be more careful next time no doubt.

McDermott tries for a takedown but Burnz circles away easily

and Burnz holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Burnz pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

McDermott darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Colin McDermott is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
McDermott takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
McDermott is stalling here. Burnz is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! McDermott seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Burnz has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
McDermott tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Burnz wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Dee Burnz has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
McDermott gets back to half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Colin McDermott showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for McDermott, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
