PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jami Bradley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Major Morton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jami Bradley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Major Morton!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Winston Alpacca and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Morton gets the takedown into side control.
You can see the frustration on Bradley's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Bradley sneaks back into half guard.
Bradley won't allow Morton to pass to mount.
Bradley gets full guard.
Bradley controls Morton momentarily but Morton frees himself.
Morton controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Morton really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bradley. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bradley controls Morton momentarily but Morton frees himself.
Morton tries to free his leg and advance position but Bradley is retaining full guard.
Morton is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Morton fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Bradley, pushing him back against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Bradley is trying to pull guard but Morton has him pressed against the cage.

Morton lands a takedown into guard.
Morton controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Morton got a little sloppy there for a moment and Bradley has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Morton has managed to get both his arms back between Bradley's legs - danger averted.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bradley trying to keep a closed guard but Morton is proving a slippery customer.

Bradley is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Morton must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Bradley is breathing heavily.

Morton wants to stand but Bradley is controlling his posture from full guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Bradley is on top in guard.

Morton looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Bradley gets to his feet. Morton looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Bradley enables Morton to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Bradley manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Major Morton will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Bradley fails with the takedown.

Morton bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Bradley pushes Morton away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Morton gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Morton lands a nice short elbow.
Morton working over Bradley with some ground and pound. Bradley looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Morton is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Morton is trying to work for a kimura but Bradley is defending well.

Morton has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Morton wants to work for an arm triangle but Bradley is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Major Morton has got the better of the ground game so far.

Bradley makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Bradley.

Morton stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bradley swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Morton shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Morton showed some decent athleticism there.
Morton looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Bradley with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Bradley won't allow Morton to pass to mount.
Morton takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Morton is pressing down on Bradley's thigh, looking to free his foot. Bradley is holding on for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Morton seems to be looking for submissions.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Morton performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Morton looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Major Morton showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


A telegraphed takedown attempt from Bradley is defended easily by Morton.
Morton throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
and Bradley counters with a right hand to the body.
Morton stalks Bradley and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Bradley's face. Bradley staggers backwards, shaken.

Morton feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Bradley kicks Morton off and gets to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Morton throws a body kick that misses
and Bradley counters with a body kick.

Morton closes the distance and pushes Bradley back into the cage.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Morton gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Bradley is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Bradley decides to return to a standing position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Morton throws a combination that misses

and Bradley holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Bradley has had enough of the clinch but Morton keeps him there for the moment.
Bradley tries to pull guard but Morton won't allow it.
A shot in the inside from Morton.

Morton gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Bradley is trying to maintain the position but Morton is very close to passing his half guard.
Morton should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Bradley is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Morton's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Morton's back!

Morton rolls, trying to escape but Bradley keeps control of the position.
Bradley will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Morton is trying to stand back up.
Bradley controlling well, preventing Morton from escaping the position.

Morton is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Morton rolls, trying to escape but Bradley keeps control of the position.

Jami Bradley showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Morton has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
