PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Odell Mason (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Sinclair (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Odell Mason!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Frank Sinclair!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Bart Greer and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sinclair dives in and grabs Mason's left leg, looking for a takedown. Mason pushes down on Sinclair's head and hops out.
Mason throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Sinclair stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Sinclair takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Sinclair walks into a jab.
Sinclair shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Mason lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Mason shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sinclair defends it nicely.

Mason moves into the clinch successfully.
Mason lands a left hand.
Sinclair tries to score a body lock takedown but Mason shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Odell Mason has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Frank Sinclair.

Sinclair ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Sinclair no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Mason is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sinclair has his hands on Mason's head, controlling the position.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Sinclair is on top in guard.

Mason wants to sweep here but Sinclair controlling him for the moment.

Mason wants to stand and escape but Sinclair is having none of it.
Sinclair with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Sinclair works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Mason is trying to maintain the position but Sinclair is very close to passing his half guard.
Mason knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Sinclair on the ground.
Mason wants to improve his position but Sinclair is controlling well.

Sinclair is trying to control the action in half guard but Mason is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Sinclair is working for a submission of some sort.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Sinclair works his foot free and advances to mount.

Mason tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Mason might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Sinclair trying to control but Mason is having none of it.

Mason sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
It looks like Sinclair is going to stand back up.
Mason is trying to get back to full guard.
Mason wants to get back to his feet.

Mason manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Sinclair has a takedown stuffed.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sinclair throws a right hand that Mason ducks under and follows up with a left that Mason also avoids with ease.

and Mason holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Odell Mason dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Mason moves into range and clinches up with Sinclair.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Sinclair manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Mason postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Sinclair is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Mason, into his guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sinclair throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Mason works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Sinclair wants to pass the guard but Mason is keeping the position.

Mason tries to bench press Sinclair off him but Sinclair keeps the position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Sinclair creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Mason sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Mason wants to get back to his feet.
Mason tries to bench press Sinclair off him but Sinclair keeps the position.
Mason keeps Sinclair under control for a moment.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Sinclair decides to stand up, so the ref orders Mason to his feet.
A jab lands there for Mason.
Sinclair fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Mason connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Sinclair momentarily.

Sinclair misses with a body kick.
Mason stuffs the takedown attempt from Sinclair. Sinclair gets slowly back to his feet.
Sinclair tries to move into range but Mason moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Mason shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Sinclair had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Mason defends it easily.

Mason stands and steps away. Sinclair gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Mason feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Sinclair's calf.
Mason is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Sinclair can do to turn this around?

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The fighters circle momentarily. Mason darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Mason looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Sinclair is looking to control Mason's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Sinclair avoid being mounted?
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Mason in particular looking to stall.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


A decent looking cross lands there for Mason.
Sinclair shoots in looking for a takedown. Mason tries to sprawl out of it but Sinclair keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mason manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Mason tries to counter by clinching up but Sinclair breaks away and moves out of range.

Mason fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Sinclair, pushing him back against the cage.
Mason lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sinclair takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mason won't allow Sinclair to sweep him here.

Mason stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sinclair swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mason, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
