The judges for this bout are Francis DeMontford, John Mangel and Ben Hemmingworth.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Overeem tries to clinch up but Perkins circles away and keeps his distance.
Overeem throws a head kick but Perkins moves out of range.
Perkins feints the counter takedown.
Perkins throws the left hand but Overeem avoids the punch easily.
Overeem shoots in but no luck this time.
Overeem misses with a takedown attempt - Perkins sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Overeem moves into the clinch.
Overeem wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Overeem fails to pull the fight into his guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alistair Overeem. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Perkins's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Overeem thows a leg kick but Perkins checks it
and Perkins counters with a takedown into side control.

Perkins looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Perkins in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Perkins wants to control but Overeem is keeping him busy.
Overeem struggling a bit here.
Perkins lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Overeem down.
Overeem knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Perkins on the ground.
Overeem is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
