PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gene Warren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcos Altuve (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Marcos Altuve will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Marcos Altuve!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Russell Pearce and Alyssa Summers.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Altuve looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Altuve shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Warren as he avoids it easily.

Altuve moves into range and clinches up with Warren.
Warren really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Altuve jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Warren walks away with a smile on his face. Altuve gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Warren drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Altuve wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Warren manages to pass to side control.

Warren decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Altuve throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Warren's waist but Warren gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Altuve off to one side.
Gene Warren has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marcos Altuve.
Warren leaves Altuve with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Altuve scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Warren doesn't seem bothered though.

and Warren counters with a big head kick but Altuve shrugs it off.

Altuve clinches up against the cage.
Warren lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Warren.

Warren manages to pull guard.
Altuve must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Warren bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Altuve's guard.

Altuve is trying to hold Warren in close to prevent damage but Warren has managed to pass into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Warren stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Marcos Altuve seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Warren counters by clinching up.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Warren misses with a punch on the inside.
Warren will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Altuve up against the cage.
Altuve changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Warren fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Warren shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Altuve napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Altuve is looking to get back to his feet here but Warren is keeping cool and he's managed to take Altuve's back.

Altuve has hold of Warren's leg, trying to break free but it's let Warren lock up a rear naked choke! This could be big trouble! Altuve is turning an unusual color here… he's out! Warren throws him to one side and jumps onto the cage to celebrate with his fans.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Gene Warren!
