PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Moses Ohchooto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vincent Oketch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 37 - 19 - 2, fighting out of Hilo, Moses Ohchooto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 28 - 18 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vincent Oketch!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Cecil Peabody and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Oketch keeps the fight on the outside.
Ohchooto tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Oketch was well out of range. Poor timing from Ohchooto.
Oketch closes the distance and clinches up with Ohchooto, looking for a takedown. Oketch pushes Ohchooto against the cage but Ohchooto circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Ohchooto swings for the body but Oketch moves out of range.
Moses Ohchooto seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Oketch shoots in looking for a takedown. Ohchooto tries to sprawl out of it but Oketch keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Ohchooto manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Ohchooto lands a nice looking body shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ohchooto dips to his left and cracks Oketch with an uppercut!
Oketch on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Ohchooto misses with an uppercut
and Oketch counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Ohchooto misses with an uppercut. Oketch saw that one coming.
Ohchooto changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Oketch is defended easily by Ohchooto.
Moses Ohchooto has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vincent Oketch.
Ohchooto scores with a hook to the body. Oketch takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Ohchooto rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Oketch counters with a slapping leg kick.
Ohchooto wants to clinch up but Oketch keeps it at a distance.
A nice inside leg kick there by Ohchooto. That's going to slow Oketch down.
Ohchooto tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Oketch manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Oketch misses with a low kick.
Oketch takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Oketch will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Ohchooto bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Oketch's head backwards.

A combination from Oketch does no damage.
Ohchooto lands a jab to the head.
Ohchooto throws out a leg kick but Oketch moves out of range and Ohchooto only half commits.
Ohchooto cracks the inside of Oketch's front leg.
Ohchooto takes a swing at Oketch's ribcage but misses.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Ohchooto leaves Oketch with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Ohchooto lands with a hook. Oketch tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Moses Ohchooto is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Ohchooto with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Ohchooto lands a nice hook to Oketch's body. Oketch takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Oketch manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Ohchooto on his heels. He'll look to pass Ohchooto's guard now, I'm sure.
Ohchooto wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Oketch manages to pass to side control.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Oketch looking for a submission but Ohchooto manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.

Oketch thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Ohchooto trying to keep a closed guard but Oketch is proving a slippery customer.
Oketch looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Oketch connects with a couple of short punches.
Oketch passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Ohchooto is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Oketch is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Ohchooto is looking to improve his position but Oketch isn't that keen on the idea.
Oketch trying to control but Ohchooto is having none of it.

Oketch looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
BOOM! Oketch connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Ohchooto is squirming around, avoiding Oketch's attempts to control the action.
Ohchooto tries to lock up and control but Oketch gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Moses Ohchooto dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Ohchooto throws a leg kick

and Oketch counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Ohchooto regains full guard. Nicely done.
Oketch trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Oketch has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Oketch's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Oketch trying to control the position from guard on top but Ohchooto is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Ohchooto is looking for a triangle but Oketch pushes his legs off easily.
Ohchooto keeping moving, preventing Oketch from controlling successfully.
We've been hearing good reports from Ohchooto's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ohchooto wants to sweep here but Oketch controlling him for the moment.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Oketch passes to side control.
Oketch lands an elbow.
Vincent Oketch has got the better of the ground game so far.

Oketch is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Ohchooto knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Oketch tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Ohchooto is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Ohchooto defending against the ground and pound.
Ohchooto is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Oketch has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Ohchooto tries to bench press Oketch off him but Oketch keeps the position.

Oketch thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Ohchooto is not content to let Oketch control the position.
Ohchooto is trying to control Oketch's posture but Oketch avoids it.
Ohchooto tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Oketch wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Oketch trying to control the position but Ohchooto is working away.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Oketch in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Ohchooto is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
