Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Smith (ranked 2839 p4p, 337 weight class) and Joe Schmo (ranked 2742 p4p, 325 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Schmo.

Smith changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Schmo looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Schmo can do anything to dispel that myth.
Smith works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

It looks like Joe Schmo has been cut.
Schmo is looking for a sweep.

Smith is trying to get an arm triangle but Schmo is defending well.
Schmo tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Schmo is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Smith thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith is pressing down on Schmo's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Schmo accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Smith distracts Schmo with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Schmo is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Smith makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Smith has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Schmo tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Smith drops back looking for a leg! Schmo is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Schmo manages to kick Smith off! Smith jumps back into Schmo's guard.

Johnny Smith tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
