PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joey Warren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nicol Bolas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Warren is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. Nicol Bolas will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Joey Warren!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Nicol Bolas!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Bart Greer and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Bolas.
Warren is breathing heavily.

Bolas drops Warren with a beautiful combination! Warren stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Bolas is looking for the KO!


It looks like Joey Warren has been cut.
Bolas shoots in and drives through. Warren sprawls well.
Warren leaves Bolas with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Joey Warren has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nicol Bolas.
Bolas misses with a takedown attempt - Warren sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Bolas shoots in for a takedown but Warren shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Warren fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Bolas let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Warren leaves Bolas with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Bolas shoots for a takedown but Warren saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Bolas tries to score a power double leg takedown but Warren sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Bolas somewhat.
Bolas shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Warren defends it nicely.
Warren is looking for a counter combo.

Bolas fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Warren, pushing him back against the cage.
Bolas has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Bolas's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Bolas throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Warren misses with a wild body shot.

Bolas rushes Warren and presses him up against the cage.
Bolas tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

Bolas manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Bolas is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Bolas can do anything to dispel that myth.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Warren drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Warren jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Bolas is trying to control the position but Warren postures up.
Warren stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bolas swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bolas has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Warren can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Bolas darts in and clinches Warren up against the cage.
Warren swings wildly with an uppercut but Bolas uses good head movement to avoid it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Bolas.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nicol Bolas showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Bolas changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Warren tries to avoid it but Bolas manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Warren to the ground. Warren escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Warren defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Bolas.
Warren is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Bolas pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Warren misses with a two punch combination.
Nice sprawl there from Warren as Bolas shoots in.
Warren seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

Bolas fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Warren avoids it really well and circles away.
Bolas shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Warren as he jumps to the side.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Warren misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Bolas.

Warren tries to throw a body punch but Bolas avoids it by throwing Warren back against the cage.

Bolas not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Bolas throws his legs up looking for a submission but Warren uses it to pass to side control.

The strikes coming from Warren are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bolas tries to buck Warren off but Warren is having none of it.

Warren tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Warren has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
