Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Clifton Owens (ranked 23598 p4p, 887 weight class) and Andre King (ranked 9019 p4p, 817 weight class). Owens comes to the cage accompanied by The Bad Touch - Bloodhound Gang. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Clifton Owens!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Andre King!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Sergei Dronov and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King has a takedown stuffed.
Owens keeps the fight on the outside.
Owens is looking to counter with head kicks.
Owens throws a right hand that misses
and King counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Andre King seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Owens keeps the fight on the outside.
Owens throws a quick counter head kick but King was just out of range.

Owens decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Owens takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Owens's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

King wants to improve his position but Owens is controlling well.
Owens has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Owens decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Owens really is a fat lump.
King tries to close the distance and clinch up but Owens swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Owens wants to take the fight to the mat but King manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
King utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.
Owens tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. King just stands there and leans against the cage.

King gets a trip takedown into half guard.

King thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Owens's head.
Owens is looking to control King's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Owens avoid being mounted?
Owens is looking for a sweep. King is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
King wants to pass the guard but Owens is defending well.
King missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

Owens looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
King throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Owens to regain full guard.
King postures up in Owens's guard and throws a big left but Owens blocks it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
King trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
King looking to sit in guard and control but Owens gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Owens trying to control but King is working from the bottom.
Owens might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Owens gets to his feet - King follows without any prompting.
King shoots for a double leg takedown but Owens sprawls well. He's pushed King's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
An attempted straight right counter from Owens misses the target.
Clifton Owens has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Andre King.
King tries to clinch but Owens moves out of range.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Owens lands a nice hook to King's body. King takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

and King counters by moving into the clinch.

King has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Owens uses from the top position.
Owens's corner is telling him to maintain position.
We've been hearing good reports from Owens's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Owens wants to stand but King has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Clifton Owens will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


King lands a head kick. Owens smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Owens swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and King holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
King has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Owens is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

King turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and King manages to end up in side control.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
King working the ground and pound but Owens is defending the strikes.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Owens is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
King prevents Owens from improving his position.
King thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

King working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Owens's thigh. Owens counters though and makes it back to full guard.
Owens thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Owens trying to keep a closed guard but King is proving a slippery customer.

Owens is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Owens looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Owens is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
King throwing strikes from guard but Owens blocks nicely.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
King dives in for a single leg takedown but Owens sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
King ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

King closes the distance and clinches.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
King scores with a hook to the body.
King is pressed up against the cage. Owens has hold of a leg and is looking to drag King down to the mat. King avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
King throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Owens's waist but Owens gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing King off to one side.
Clifton Owens has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Andre King.
King fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Owens avoids it really well and circles away.
King shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Owens but Owens pushes him off and we're back to square one.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
King tries to clinch but Owens is having none of it.

King shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Owens's guard.
King wants to control from the top but Owens keeps moving.
King in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
King has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Owens is proving hard to escape from.

King content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Owens has locked up a guillotine! Owens's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? King is holding on here and Owens must be using up a lot of energy. King has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Owens gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
