PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jiri Sayonara (ranked 351 p4p, 37 weight class) and Nathan Wallace (ranked 163 p4p, 16 weight class). Sayonara kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Edge Of The Blade. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sayonara scores with a push kick.
Sayonara swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Wallace looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Sayonara ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Wallace moves away.
That kick from Wallace tenderised Sayonara's leg. Sayonara is trying to keep his angry face on.
Sayonara takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Wallace fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Sayonara checks it well.
A counter left hand to the body from Sayonara misses its target.
Sayonara comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Wallace bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Sayonara manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Wallace on his heels. He'll look to pass Wallace's guard now, I'm sure.

Sayonara is looking to wear down Wallace with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

Wallace swings for the body but Sayonara moves out of range.

Sayonara closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Wallace quickly recovers to half guard.
Wallace is looking for a sweep. Sayonara is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sayonara is looking to take a break and control but Wallace is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Nathan Wallace seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Sayonara drops his hands momentarily and Wallace takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Sayonara shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Wallace's guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jiri Sayonara will probably get the nod.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Sayonara here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Sayonara will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Sayonara tries to land a front kick but Wallace steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Wallace! But no joy.
Sayonara punishes Wallace's body with a nice straight punch.
Wallace clobbers Sayonara with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jiri Sayonara.
I think Sayonara has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
