PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Scott Watt (ranked 4680 p4p, 435 weight class) and Samak Tiyapairat (ranked 3182 p4p, 319 weight class). Watt comes to the cage accompanied by Edmund Fitzgerald. Tiyapairat has chosen Ram Muay as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Samak Tiyapairat has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Scott Watt's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 25 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Scott Watt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 38 - 34 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Samak Tiyapairat!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Steve Smith and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Watt connects with the punch.
Watt thows a body kick. Tiyapairat tries to catch it but that hurt him.
A head kick by Tiyapairat misses

and Watt counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Watt.
Tiyapairat tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Watt avoids it.
Tiyapairat takes an elbow to the forehead.


It looks like Samak Tiyapairat has been cut.
Tiyapairat tries to break free but Watt pushes him back against the cage.
Watt taking a breather.
Tiyapairat misses with an elbow over the top.
Tiyapairat misses with a knee to the head.
Tiyapairat is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Watt tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Watt presses Tiyapairat against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Watt manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Tiyapairat's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Tiyapairat gets a clinch.
A right hand to the body from Watt.
Watt utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Watt blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Tiyapairat missing with knees to the body.

Watt gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Watt crunches a lovely knee into Tiyapairat's ribcage.
Watt struggles to land a body shot inside as Tiyapairat controls his hands.

Watt lands an elbow that stopped Tiyapairat in his tracks for a moment.
Tiyapairat tries to work over Watt's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
A right handed body shot lands from Watt.

Tiyapairat throws a knee to the head but misses.
Nice body punch from Watt.
Watt creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Tiyapairat's defenses.


That has opened up Samak Tiyapairat's cut even more.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Watt obliges.
Watt is pushing Tiyapairat up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Tiyapairat takes an elbow to the temple.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Watt lands an elbow inside.
Watt is stalling here.
Watt lands an elbow that stopped Tiyapairat in his tracks for a moment.

Watt manages to break the clinch.
We've been told by Watt's head coaches at Death Valley Training Facility that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Tiyapairat throws the left hand but Watt avoids the punch easily.
Tiyapairat falls off balance throwing a combination
and Watt counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Watt bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Tiyapairat takes a head kick and keeps coming.


The cut above Samak Tiyapairat's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Tiyapairat tries to bum rush Watt with a series of wild strikes but Watt uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Watt lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Watt gets a clinch.
Watt is leaning against Tiyapairat and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
A nice left hand lands by Watt.
Tiyapairat goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Watt lands a body shot in the clinch.
Watt lands an elbow that stopped Tiyapairat in his tracks for a moment.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Watt.


Samak Tiyapairat's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

Watt manages to break the clinch.
Whack! Watt lands a heavy head kick that drops Tiyapairat. The ref tackles Watt to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Tiyapairat was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Head Kick). Scott Watt!
Scott Watt decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
