PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Asu Kuren (ranked 3530 p4p, 485 weight class) and Dale Bomber (ranked 3834 p4p, 528 weight class). Dale Bomber will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Asu Kuren!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Dale Bomber!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Vladimir Khabensky and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bomber with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Bomber lands with a thumping leg kick.
Bomber paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Kuren shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Bomber pinned against the cage. Bomber gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Kuren shoots in but no luck this time.
Bomber connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Kuren's hands.
Kuren tries to clinch there but Bomber circles away.
Bomber circles away from the clinch attempt.
We've been hearing reports that Kuren has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Kuren steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Bomber. That one must have hurt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Kuren.

Kuren stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Bomber.

Bomber's coach down at ~T~ Troid - Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Bomber's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Kuren moves to clinch but Bomber breaks away
and Bomber counters with a good low kick that Kuren was not able to check.
Bomber sizes up Kuren with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

Kuren looking to score a takedown here. Bomber is defending well but Kuren drives through and ends up in Bomber's guard.
Kuren is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Kuren wants to pass the guard but Bomber is keeping the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Kuren throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Bomber tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Kuren is in Bomber's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kuren slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
You can see the frustration on Bomber's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Bomber is not content to let Kuren control the position.
Kuren in side control lands a decent elbow.
Bomber avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Kuren.
Kuren trying to control the action but Bomber is working from the bottom.
Bomber parries the strikes from Kuren easily there. Kuren is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Bomber to escape.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Bomber sneaks back into half guard.
Kuren sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Bomber defending well though.
Kuren lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Bomber is not content to let Kuren control the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kuren content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dale Bomber dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Kuren fails with the takedown
and Bomber connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Bomber tries to score with a low kick but Kuren moves his leg out of the way.
Kuren drops down looking for a counter takedown but Bomber sprawls and moves away.
Kuren wants to clinch.
Dale Bomber seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Kuren is looking to clinch.
Despite the aggression on Bomber's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Good leg kick by Bomber there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Kuren gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bomber connects with a body shot that sends Kuren's belly button to the back.
Bomber lands a jab.

Bomber gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Kuren tries to free his leg and advance position but Bomber is retaining full guard.

Bomber has control of Kuren's left arm, preventing Kuren from doing any damage.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Bomber keeping moving, preventing Kuren from controlling successfully.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Bomber cracks the inside of Kuren's front leg.
Bomber thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Kuren if he has to take too many more of those.
Bomber lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Kuren steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Bomber.
Kuren is looking to clinch.
Dale Bomber is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Kuren shoots in for a takedown but Bomber shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Bomber throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Kuren drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Bomber gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Bomber content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Kuren has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Bomber is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Bomber lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Bomber lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Kuren backwards.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Kuren.
Kuren keeps control of Bomber as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Bomber struggles to land a body shot inside as Kuren controls his hands.
Kuren tries to score a body lock takedown but Bomber shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Bomber wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Kuren has him pressed against the cage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kuren blocks an uppercut.
Bomber is trying to break the clinch but Kuren has him pressed against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dale Bomber showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

A good leg kick by Bomber.
Kuren tries to close the distance and clinch but Bomber swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Kuren moves out of range as Bomber strikes.
Kuren changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Horrible takedown attempt by Kuren or perhaps it was just good defense by Bomber, which made it look bad.
Kuren tries for a takedown but Bomber sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Bomber! But no joy.
Kuren closes the distance but Bomber moves to the side
and Bomber counters with a nice body kick.
Bomber connects with a crisp jab.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bomber wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
That kick from Bomber tenderised Kuren's leg. Kuren is trying to keep his angry face on.
Bomber circles away from the clinch attempt.
Bomber scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Kuren doesn't seem bothered though.

Kuren shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Bomber as he avoids it easily.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Bomber cracks Kuren with a right hand to the side of the head.
Kuren shoots for a takedown but Bomber saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Bomber connects with a leg kick. Kuren looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Kuren moves in looking to clinch but Bomber pushes him off.
Bomber has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Bomber fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kuren manages to avoid it.

Bomber defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Kuren.

Dale Bomber seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kuren doesn't manage to clinch there - Bomber circles away.
Oh Kuren is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Bomber cracks the inside of Kuren's front leg.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Kuren is defended easily by Bomber.
Bomber feints a counter leg kick.
Kuren wants to clinch up but Bomber keeps it at a distance.

Kuren looks up at the clock. Bad move! Bomber lands a right hand from hell, dropping Kuren. Bomber pounces and finishes the fight with a flurry of punches and elbows.
