Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Cheik Awssa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Max Fawce!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, David Hoff and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Awssa clinches up against the cage.
Awssa stalling.
Fawce is trying to break free.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Cheik Awssa.
Awssa misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Awssa moves into the clinch.
Awssa misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Fawce.
The referee is keeping an eye on Awssa - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Awssa lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!


It looks like Max Fawce has been cut.
Awssa stalls.
Come on Awssa - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Awssa for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.
Awssa's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Awssa using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Fawce has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Awssa is pushing Fawce up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Cheik Awssa.
Awssa uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Fawce.
Awssa tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Fawce paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Awssa gets a clinch.
Fawce looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Awssa is struggling to control the position.
Awssa stalls.
Awssa displaying some good clinch control by pressing Fawce up against the cage.
Awssa gets a warning from the ref for wasting time.

Awssa blocking some punches.
Awssa with a knee to the head.

Fawce gets control of Awssa's arms and successfully pulls guard. Fawce will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Awssa preventing the sweep.
Awssa trying to stand up but can't free himself from Fawce's guard.
Fawce bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Awssa's guard.

Fawce lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Awssa wants to stand up but Fawce is controlling him.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Fawce accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Fawce trying to control but Awssa is working from the bottom.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Fawce sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Awssa's guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Fawce seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Awssa is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Max Fawce!
Max Fawce took his opportunity to call for a title shot in his post fight interview.
