Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nate Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rolf Ruger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Silva kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Nothing Else Matters - Apocalyptica. Ruger has chosen Refused - New Noise as his entrance music. Nate Silva has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Nate Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Rolf Ruger!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ruger tries to close the distance and clinch but Silva swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Silva lands with a slapping head kick.


It looks like Rolf Ruger has been cut.
Silva will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Silva!
Ruger doesn't manage to clinch there - Silva circles away.
Ruger wants to clinch.
Silva with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Ruger slips a jab and a cross from Silva.

Ruger looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ruger prevents Silva from standing back up.
Ruger is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Silva is trying desperately to improve position.
Silva on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Silva tries to get out of the position.
Ruger tries to control but Silva wriggling away.
Silva is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Ruger has taken his back!
Well, with Ruger on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Silva is tapping out... Can he escape the position?
Ruger has the hooks in. Silva is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Ruger misses with an elbow to the head.
Silva turns into Ruger and is now in his guard.
Ruger is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Ruger shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Silva's guard.

Silva pushes Ruger off looking to stand but Ruger dives back in and keeps control.
Silva has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ruger is working away from the top position though.

Ruger wants to pass the guard but Silva is defending well.
Silva is trying to stand up here but Ruger is controlling him well.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Silva is trying to maintain the position but Ruger is very close to passing his half guard.

Ruger is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Ruger stalling.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Ruger looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Ruger fails with the takedown.
Ruger will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Nate Silva has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rolf Ruger.
Silva scores with a nice right hand.
Ruger throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Ruger feints and as Silva raises his hands in defense, Ruger changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Nate Silva will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Rolf Ruger's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Ruger throws a push kick but Silva slaps the foot to one side.
Silva swings away with a leg kick that misses.
A low kick from Ruger misses
and Silva makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Ruger really felt that one!
Ruger doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Silva counters with a nice uppercut.
Ruger blocks a head kick by Silva.
Silva connects with a good right hand that stumbles Ruger. Ruger circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Ruger closes the distance looking to clinch
and Silva counters with a straight right hand.
Ruger is breathing heavily.
Silva swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Silva lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Ruger circles away quickly and effectively.
Ruger misses with a body punch
and Silva counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Nate Silva is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ruger gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Silva rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Ruger moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Ruger closes the distance but Silva moves to the side

and Silva counters with a flying knee that drops Ruger!


That has opened up Rolf Ruger's cut even more.
Silva would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Silva wants to pass the guard but Ruger is keeping the position.
Silva knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ruger on the ground.
Silva passes Ruger's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Ruger is trying to maintain the position but Silva is very close to passing his half guard.
Ruger tries to get to full guard but Silva has control of the leg.
Silva is trying to control the action in half guard but Ruger is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Silva tries to stand and escape but Ruger actually recovers to full guard.
Silva is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Silva has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Silva wants to stand but Ruger has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Ruger manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Silva manages to get himself to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Ruger trying to control the position from guard on top but Silva is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Ruger throws a sloppy head kick
and Silva counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Ruger needs to keep his hands up - Silva had a free shot at his head there.
Nate Silva is winning the standup battle so far.
Silva with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Silva circles away from the clinch attempt
and Silva cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Ruger avoids a punch combination nicely.
Silva works over Ruger's head and body with a nice combination.
Ruger gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Silva counters with a big head kick but Ruger shrugs it off.
Silva drops Ruger with a right and a left! Silva comes rushing in but Ruger regains his composure and manages to keep Silva in guard.


The cut above Rolf Ruger's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Ruger takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Silva wants to stand and escape but instead Ruger has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Silva utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Silva is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Ruger is controlling him.
Ruger is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Ruger is pushing down on Silva's leg trying to pass to half guard. Silva is fighting to maintain full guard but Ruger has managed to sneak the leg through.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Silva looks like he's trying to stand up.
Silva works his way to full guard. Good work.
Ruger is stalling in the full guard.
Ruger looking to sit in guard and control but Silva gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Ruger has an active guard here but Silva has managed to pass into half guard.

Silva decides to stand and escape the position.
Ruger fails with the takedown
and Silva counters with a two punch combo.


Rolf Ruger's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
Silva throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Rolf Ruger's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Nate Silva!
