PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Cromwell (ranked 4885 p4p, 544 weight class) and Dean Roger (ranked 5021 p4p, 551 weight class). Dean Roger told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Thomas Cromwell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Steve Montenegro and Dean Styles.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cromwell swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
A slapping leg kick lands for Cromwell.
Cromwell throws a hook to the side of Roger's head but Roger sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Dean Roger seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Roger takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Roger has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Roger throws a hook but Cromwell avoids it easily.
Cromwell looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Roger dips to his left and cracks Cromwell with an uppercut!
A jab lands there for Roger.
No joy there for Cromwell, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Roger lands with a right hand.
Cromwell tries to bum rush Roger with a series of wild strikes but Roger uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Cromwell throws a wild body kick that Roger sees coming a mile off.
Roger throws an overhand right that lands on Cromwell's shoulder, as Cromwell tries to avoid the shot.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Cromwell bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Cromwell thows a left - swing and a miss!
Roger throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Cromwell went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Cromwell scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Roger tries to move into range but Cromwell moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Roger feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Cromwell's calf.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Cromwell digs a good hook to Roger's body.
Roger chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Cromwell can pounce on him.
Roger might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Roger moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Oh Cromwell is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Cromwell throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Roger bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Cromwell's head backwards.

Roger takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

Cromwell takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Cromwell ducks under a wild hook from Roger.

Cromwell is looking to score with low kicks.

Roger closes the distance and clinches.

Roger escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Cromwell walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Cromwell avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Roger bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Cromwell swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Cromwell punishes Roger's body with a nice straight punch.

Roger closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Cromwell tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Roger avoids it.
Cromwell tries to break free but Roger pushes him back against the cage.

Roger makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Roger is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Roger lands a big right hand that drops Cromwell! The killer instinct kicks in and Roger finishes his opponent with a series of strikes from mount. A dominating finish by Roger!
