PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between TJ Guillard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tom Kruiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Guillard comes to the cage accompanied by White Lines. The crowd seem to be enjoying Kruiz's choice of entrance music: ZARILA KANDZE. Tom Kruiz is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, TJ Guillard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 8 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Tom Kruiz!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Gwen Towbar and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Guillard throws a lazy head kick
and Kruiz counters with a one-two to the body.
Kruiz feints a jab promting Guillard to slip. Kruiz then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Guillard slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Guillard lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Kruiz circles away quickly and effectively.
Sloppy strikes from Guillard. Those never looked like landing.
Kruiz bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Guillard's head.
Guillard misses the shot to the body.
Guillard swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
enabling Kruiz to counter with a crisp jab.
Guillard looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kruiz ducks under a wild hook from Guillard.
A shot to the body from Guillard misses
and Kruiz counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Guillard thinking.
Kruiz throws a nice head kick!
Kruiz cracks Guillard with an open hand slap.
Guillard takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Kruiz shoots in and bounces Guillard off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Kruiz throwing strikes but missing.
Kruiz is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kruiz seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Guillard can't keep his opponent in guard - Kruiz advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Guillard knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kruiz on the ground.
Kruiz is trying to control. Guillard wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Kruiz wants to pass the guard but Guillard is defending well.
Kruiz has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Kruiz seems to be working for a kimura but Guillard defends the submission attempt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kruiz content to control rather than advance.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kruiz missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Kruiz moves nicely into side control.
Guillard looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Kruiz grinds an elbow into Guillard's temple.
Guillard managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Kruiz.
Kruiz wants to lay and pray for a moment but Guillard keeps working.
Kruiz misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Kruiz working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Kruiz throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Guillard is breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Kruiz has an Americana. Guillard didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Kruiz is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Kruiz hooks up with any of them at the after show party.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Tom Kruiz!
A very excited looking Tom Kruiz rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
In defeat, TJ Guillard stepped up to the mic, saying 'I want a rematch next week. I ain't no punk...'.
