Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Patrick Welding (ranked 6848 p4p, 663 weight class) and Alistair Overeem (ranked 25544 p4p, 847 weight class). Alistair Overeem told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Patrick Welding!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alistair Overeem!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Tiny Johnson and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Overeem misses with a wild combination.

Welding fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Overeem, pushing him back against the cage.
A bit of stalling here from Welding.

Welding manages to break the clinch.
Overeem throws a sloppy head kick and Welding moves out of range easily.
Welding is looking for a counter combo.
A shot to the liver by Welding. Beautiful body shot.
A decent looking cross lands there for Welding.
Welding throws a right and a left that both miss.
Overeem fails with the takedown.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Welding scores with a jab to the body.
Welding lands a lovely overhand right.

Welding drives through and clinches with Overeem against the cage.

Welding lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Overeem told us before the fight that he's been working on his elbows. An under utilised technique these days - let's see if it can sway the outcome of the fight.

Overeem tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Welding avoids it.
Welding prevents Overeem from breaking the clinch.
A bit of stalling here from Overeem.
Welding scores with a nice hook to the head.
Welding lands a left hand.

Welding breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Overeem with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Welding to score with a decent uppercut.

Welding lands a left hand that snaps the head of Overeem backwards.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Overeem keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Welding's efforts to push away.

Overeem tries to score a body lock takedown but Welding shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Overeem is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Welding is keeping busy.

Overeem takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Welding connects with a looping right hand.
Overeem misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Overeem changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Welding tries to avoid it but Overeem manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Welding to the ground. Welding escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Overeem can't break the clinch.

Welding's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Welding feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Overeems jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
A jab from Welding finds it's way through Overeem's defenses.
Welding feints a jab promting Overeem to slip. Welding then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Overeem slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.


Overeem is rocked!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Welding manages to break the clinch.
Welding lands a hook that stumbles Overeem back into the cage. Welding follows up with a straight and another hook that land right on the button, dropping Overeem to the canvas! Welding pounces and lands several unanswered shots - Overeem has had enough and taps out! This one is all over!
