PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Brij Khali (ranked 10255 p4p, 657 weight class) and Frankie Edgar (ranked 4117 p4p, 401 weight class). Frankie Edgar is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 35 - 78 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Brij Khali!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Frankie Edgar!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Steve Smith and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Edgar throws a series of punches but Khali avoids them all with ease.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Khali is defended easily by Edgar.
Khali shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Edgar counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Edgar breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A shot to the liver by Edgar. Beautiful body shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Edgar closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Edgar wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Khali, who protects the arm well.

Edgar is trying to get an arm triangle but Khali is defending well.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Edgar is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Khali has escaped the position, nice work there.

Edgar is looking to take a break and control but Khali is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Edgar is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Khali is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Edgar is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Khali knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Khali parries the strikes from Edgar easily there. Edgar is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Khali to escape.

Edgar cracks Khali with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Edgar works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Khali takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Edgar is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Khali knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Khali wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Khali is not content to let Edgar control the position.
Khali knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Edgar on the ground.

Edgar is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Khali is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Edgar stands up and beckons Khali to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Edgar throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Khali on the side of the head.

Khali gets tackled into the cage by Edgar. Edgar maintains the clinch.

Edgar's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Edgar misses with a two punch combination.
Khali feinted with a counter takedown.
Edgar punishes Khali's body with a nice straight punch.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Khali walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

Edgar has managed to clinch.

Edgar breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frankie Edgar dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Khali gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Edgar to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Edgar passes easily into side control. Nice work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Edgar thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Khali is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Edgar has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Edgar has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Khali wants to control but Edgar is having none of it.

Edgar lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Khali hang on?
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Edgar looking to control and managing it successfully.
Edgar is landing with some decent strikes but Khali is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.


Khali is rocked!

Edgar is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Khali is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Khali flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Edgar anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Khali and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Edgar slips an arm under Khali chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Edgar has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Edgar is squeezing on Khali like an anaconda would it's prey. Khali fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Frankie Edgar!
An out of breath Frankie Edgar thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
The defeated Brij Khali had this to say: 'Dissapointed to Lose'.
