PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sydney Vang (ranked 6539 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Joe (ranked 6538 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sydney Vang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joe Joe!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Chris Downing and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Joe closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Vang's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Joe prevents Vang from getting back to his feet.

Joe drops back, looking for a kneebar! Vang looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Vang looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Vang!

Vang will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Vang thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Vang is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Joe has escaped the position, nice work there.

Vang looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Joe tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Vang wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Vang is trying to get an arm triangle but Joe is defending well.

Joe pushes Vang away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Vang gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Vang is chipping away with strikes.
Joe is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Vang has just dragged him back down to the mat.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Vang tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Vang has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Vang thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Vang is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Joe has escaped the position, nice work there.

Vang is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Joe is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Joe is trying to control Vang's posture but Vang avoids it.
Joe manages to work his way to half guard, despite Vang's best efforts.
Vang really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Vang looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Vang is just content to waste time from the top position. Joe takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Joe controls Vang momentarily but Vang frees himself.
Vang working some strikes from top position.
Joe wants to stand and escape but Vang is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vang working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Vang has gone for a leg lock! Joe slips out almost immediately though and dives into Vang's guard.

Vang is adopting a defensive guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sydney Vang dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Joe rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Vang counters with a right hand to the body.

Joe has Vang up against the cage in a clinch.
Vang managing to block the knees to the body from Joe.

Joe breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Sloppy strikes from Vang. Those never looked like landing.
Vang misses with a hook to the body
and Joe counters with a straight right hand.

Joe scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
You can see the frustration on Vang's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Vang is looking for a sweep.

Joe decides to stand back up. Joe steps back and let's Vang get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Vang takes a kick to the side of the head.
Vang keeps the fight on the outside.
Vang throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Joe wants to clinch.

Joe darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Joe missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Vang is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Vang tries to kick Joe off but Joe keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Vang trying to control but Joe postures up.
Joe trying to control the action but Vang is working from the bottom.
Vang is holding on to half guard well.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Vang throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Joe drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Vang defends it well.

Joe closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Vang did well to prevent Joe getting side control.

Vang pushes Joe off and gets back to his feet.

Joe shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Vang napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Vang holds on tight, trying to prevent any damage.

Joe decides to stand back up.
Joe tries a head kick but it misses.
Joe takes a shot right to the bread basket.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Joe tries to clinch there but Vang circles away.
Vang throws a body shot but no joy.
Sydney Vang is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Vang throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Vang enables Joe to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Vang manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Vang bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Joe's guard.

Vang connects with a couple of short punches.
Vang wants to control from the top but Joe keeps moving.
Vang is working Joe over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Joe has control of Vang's left arm, preventing Vang from doing any damage.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Joe Joe will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!



Vang darts in and clinches Joe up against the cage.
Vang has Joe pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Joe manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Vang can't break the clinch.
Vang is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Joe is defending well for now.

Joe turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Joe manages to end up in side control.
Vang tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Joe presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Joe trying to control but Vang is having none of it.
Joe throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Vang wants to control but Joe is having none of it.
Joe tries to control but Vang wriggling away.
Vang sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Vang is concentrating on defense, preventing Joe from advancing position.
Vang is trying to maintain the position but Joe is very close to passing his half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Joe is trying to control the action in half guard but Vang is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Vang is looking to get back to full guard here but Joe has managed to pass to side control instead.
Vang is not content to let Joe control the position.
Vang wants to control but Joe postures up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Vang regains half guard, as Joe was trying to land strikes.

Joe wants to lay and pray for a moment but Vang keeps working.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Joe misses with a few strikes there.
Vang appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Vang misses with a body shot
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Vang lands a body shot.
Vang tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Joe swivels and escapes.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Vang lands a slapping body shot.
Joe is looking to clinch.
Vang misses with a series of wild punches.

Vang gets caught napping as Joe dives in and scores a takedown. Vang manages to retain guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Vang is trying to keep Joe in close.

And that's the end of the fight!
Joe Joe comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Joe has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
