Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Thompson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tommy Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hughes is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Hard To See. Tommy Hughes is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hughes shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Thompson as he avoids it easily.

Thompson bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Hughes is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Thompson is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Hughes knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Hughes is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Thompson is controlling him well.
Thompson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hughes keeps working.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hughes can do anything to dispel that myth.

Thompson decides to stand up, so the ref orders Hughes to his feet.
Thompson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hughes tries to avoid it but Thompson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hughes to the ground. Hughes escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Thompson closes this distance looking for a takedown but Hughes circles away.

Hughes closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Thompson is breathing heavily.

Hughes stands up and beckons Thompson to join him on the feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Thompson sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Hughes is trying to stand up.
Hughes is bucking up trying to escape but Thompson cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
You get the feeling that Hughes really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Thompson has his opponent's back but Hughes is looking to stand. He manages to get to his feet and shakes off Thompson.

The fighters circling - Hughes throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Thompson fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Hughes sprawls well initially but Thompson persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Thompson darts in and clinches Hughes up against the cage.
Hughes is trying to break the clinch but Thompson has him pressed against the cage.

Hughes jumps into guard, dragging Thompson to the mat.
Hughes is looking to stand up but Thompson isn't so interested in that idea.
Thompson wants to stand and escape but instead Hughes has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Hughes would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Thompson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Hughes's guard.

Thompson stands and throws Hughes's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Hughes pushes Thompson away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Thompson gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
