PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Aldo Shepard (ranked 6508 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Reigns (ranked 6507 p4p, 651 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Aldo Shepard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jim Reigns!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Stewart Dunkirk and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Reigns gets a double leg takedown into Shepard's guard.
Reigns throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Reigns looking to sit in guard and control but Shepard gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Shepard working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Reigns wants to get back to his feet but Shepard is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Shepard has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Reigns is looking to stand up but Shepard isn't so interested in that idea.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Reigns isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Shepard stacks Reigns on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Shepard!

Shepard cracks Reigns with a big right hand but Reigns just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Reigns tries to bench press Shepard off him but Shepard keeps the position.
Shepard could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Shepard tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Shepard has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
You can see the frustration on Reigns's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Shepard remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Reigns shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Shepard's guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Shepard decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Reigns, up you get!

Shepard throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Reigns was covering up waiting for the punch and Shepard finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Shepard is striking from the bottom but Reigns uses the opportunity to pass into half guard.

Reigns is looking to stall here but Shepard recovers full guard.

Shepard seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Reigns for as long as he can get away with.

Shepard slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
