The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Howard fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Howard moves in looking to clinch but Rockwell pushes him off.

Rockwell lands with a straight right. Howard didn't see that one coming.
Howard with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Rockwell to score with a decent uppercut.
John Rockwell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rockwell fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Rockwell is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Rockwell throws a right hand that Howard ducks under and follows up with a left that Howard also avoids with ease.

Rockwell throws a nice looking combination but Howard bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Howard shoots in but no luck this time.

Howard takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Rockwell works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

The fighters circle momentarily. Rockwell darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Howard looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Rockwell fails to land with a series of punches.
Howard feinted with a counter takedown.

Rockwell is wriggling around but Howard manages to pass to half guard.

Howard is nestled in close to Rockwell, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Howard has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Rockwell trying to get back to full guard but Howard takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!

Howard wants to take Rockwell's back here but Rockwell is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rockwell is looking to get to half guard.
Howard could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Rockwell is trying to stand up.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Rockwell can do anything to dispel that myth.
Howard lands a big shot there that rocks Rockwell but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Howard lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Howard cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
