PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Antione Chaney (ranked 8852 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ren Araki (ranked 6261 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Antione Chaney!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ren Araki!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Kenichi Hosakawa and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Araki dives in and grabs Chaney's left leg, looking for a takedown. Chaney pushes down on Araki's head and hops out.
Chaney throws a sloppy head kick and Araki moves out of range easily.

Araki looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Araki is trying to control the action in half guard but Chaney is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Araki tries to pass the half guard into mount. Chaney knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Araki is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Araki wants to control but Chaney is keeping him busy.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Chaney defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Araki.
Chaney tries to clinch but Araki is having none of it.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Araki shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Chaney as he avoids it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ren Araki dominated that round.
That's time! Chaney's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Araki shoots for a double leg takedown but Chaney sprawls well. He's pushed Araki's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
A quick step to the side and Chaney tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.

Chaney gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Araki to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Chaney scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Araki shoots in looking for a takedown. Chaney tries to sprawl out of it but Araki keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Chaney manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Araki ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Araki no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Araki makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Araki.

Chaney is working Araki over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Chaney will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Chaney prevents Araki from getting back to his feet.

Araki manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Araki is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Chaney scores with a couple of nice shots.

Chaney looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Araki with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Araki is looking for a sweep. Chaney is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Chaney slips a nice elbow through Araki's hands, connecting with Araki's forehead.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Chaney shoots in and bounces Araki off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Chaney with a flurry of punches that miss.
Araki bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Chaney's guard.

Araki takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Chaney is looking for a sweep.

Araki working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Chaney is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Araki is controlling him well.
Chaney tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
Chaney is trying to get back to his feet but Araki has full control of the position and if anything, Chaney has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Araki scores with punches and elbows.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Chaney looking very determined here, making life difficult for Araki.
What can Chaney do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Araki is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Chaney knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Chaney for a finish.

Araki really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Chaney.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Araki slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

Ren Araki comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Araki has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
