PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Robert Buddy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Irwin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Irwin has chosen The Outsider as his entrance music. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Robert Buddy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Joe Irwin!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, John Mangel and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Irwin closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Irwin lands in his opponent's guard.
Buddy is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Irwin trying to control the position from guard on top but Buddy is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Irwin wants to get up but he can't break Buddy's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Irwin wants to control from the top but Buddy keeps moving.

Irwin stands and steps away. Buddy gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Irwin throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Buddy.
Nice sprawl there from Buddy as Irwin shoots in.

Irwin moves into the clinch successfully.
Buddy looking to stall.
Buddy goes for a takedown in the clinch but Irwin prevents it.
Buddy can't get the takedown.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Buddy has had enough of the clinch but Irwin keeps him there for the moment.
Buddy is trying to drag Irwin to the mat but Irwin just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Robert Buddy. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Irwin jumps into guard, dragging Buddy to the mat.
Irwin is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Buddy is controlling him.

Irwin is looking to stand up but Buddy isn't so interested in that idea.

Buddy has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Irwin is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Buddy falls off balance throwing a combination
and Irwin counters with a series of strikes. Buddy will be more careful next time no doubt.

Buddy looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Irwin!
Irwin is desperately trying to improve his position but Buddy has a good base and remains in mount.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Irwin is in all sorts of trouble here.
Buddy lands a big elbow.

Buddy is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Irwin wants to control but Buddy is having none of it.
Irwin looks gassed!
Buddy postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Irwin looks a forlorn figure.

Buddy pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Buddy lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Buddy lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Irwin really wants to buck Buddy off and get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Buddy is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Irwin can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Buddy postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Irwin looks a forlorn figure.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Buddy lands with a big right hook that stumbles Irwin - he's out on his feet here! Buddy follows up with another monster hook that separates Irwin from consciousness! Irwin falls, almost in slow motion to the canvas! Buddy stands and admires his work as the crowd go wild.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Robert Buddy!
