PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Justin Lewis (ranked 2291 p4p, 82 weight class) and Holly Stackhouse (ranked 4880 p4p, 166 weight class). Stackhouse has chosen Tool - Jambi as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Justin Lewis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Holly Stackhouse!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Alexandre Firmino and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lewis lands a nice hook to Stackhouse's body. Stackhouse takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Lewis shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Stackhouse's guard.
Lewis is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Lewis drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Lewis jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Stackhouse can do anything to dispel that myth.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lewis goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Stackhouse turns into him and now he's in Lewis's guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Stackhouse wants to hold on but Lewis pushes him away.

Lewis is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Stackhouse to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Stackhouse shrugs it off.

Lewis seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Stackhouse for as long as he can get away with.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Lewis rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Stackhouse moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Stackhouse feints the counter takedown.

Stackhouse utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Lewis is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Lewis shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Lewis was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Lewis has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
