Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Christoper Kirkland (ranked 6593 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Santos (ranked 6592 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Christoper Kirkland!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jason Santos!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Jorge Garcia and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Santos tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Kirkland manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Kirkland throws a head kick but Santos moves out of range.
Santos let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Some wild striking there from Kirkland.

Santos tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Kirkland counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Kirkland closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Santos to the mat! Santos manages to get full guard.

Santos pushes Kirkland off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Santos shoots in looking for a takedown but Kirkland manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Santos's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Santos dives in for a single leg takedown but Kirkland sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

It looked like Kirkland was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Santos had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kirkland defends it easily.

Kirkland is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Kirkland thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Kirkland stands up over Santos, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Kirkland really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Santos shoots in for a takedown but Kirkland shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Santos fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kirkland avoids it really well and circles away.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Kirkland enables Santos to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Kirkland manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Santos is looking to take a break and control but Kirkland is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Santos really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kirkland. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Both fighters take a look at the clock.
Kirkland throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

You can see the frustration on Kirkland's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Santos is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Kirkland defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Santos is trying to stick to Kirkland's back but Kirkland is turning into Santos. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Santos's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Kirkland.

Santos closes the distance and clinches up with Kirkland, looking for a takedown. Santos pushes Kirkland against the cage but Kirkland circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Kirkland gets to his feet. Santos looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

and Kirkland counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Santos tries to keep at a distance but Kirkland has taken the fight into the clinch.
Kirkland digs a right hand into Santos's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Santos's gas tank.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kirkland is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Santos is defending well for now.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Kirkland is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Santos looks calm but he's in trouble here. Kirkland gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Santos is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Kirkland lets go of the hold and Santos can pop his arm back in it's socket.
