PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alva Whitaker (ranked 6572 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brock Dwayne (ranked 9336 p4p, 0 weight class). Dwayne is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Are You Dead Yet?. Brock Dwayne told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A jab-cross combination lands for Dwayne and sends Whitaker crashing to the mat! Dwayne follows him down to the mat - Whitaker regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!

It looks like Alva Whitaker has been cut.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Whitaker is looking to control Dwayne's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Whitaker avoid being mounted?
Still in half guard, Dwayne seems content to control.
Whitaker is trying to control but can't.
Dwayne slips a nice elbow through Whitaker's hands, connecting with Whitaker's forehead.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Whitaker has a hand on Dwayne's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Dwayne takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Whitaker could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

It looks like Dwayne might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Whitaker is desperately trying to improve his position but Dwayne has a good base and remains in mount.
Dwayne takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Whitaker tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Let's hope that Dwayne has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dwayne's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Dwayne connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Dwayne manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Whitaker on his heels. He'll look to pass Whitaker's guard now, I'm sure.

No joy there for Dwayne, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Whitaker gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Dwayne to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Dwayne throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Whitaker works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Dwayne.
Dwayne wanted to stand there but Whitaker had control of the position.

Dwayne throws a series of punches but Whitaker avoids them all with ease.
Whitaker is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Dwayne.
Whitaker takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Dwayne fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Whitaker, pushing him back against the cage.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Dwayne scores with a shoulder strike.
Dwayne lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.

Whitaker is rocked!
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Dwayne just misses with a elbow thrown towards Whitaker's brow.
Oh Whitaker is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Dwayne manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Whitaker wants to get up but he can't break Dwayne's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Dwayne is on top in guard.

Dwayne loads up on a big left hand. Whitaker felt that one! He's just covering up now, not defending himself intelligently - Dwayne looks towards the ref and unloads with 3 more big shots and the ref has no choice but to stop the fight! Whitaker can't hide his disappointment, as Dwayne celebrates the victory.
